The office felt unusually cold, and I could feel an unsettling tension building in the air. There was something ominous about today. After Rahul's report on Raghav Chauhan, I couldn't shake the dread that had been creeping up on me since the morning. Raghav had been elusive, hiding behind a facade of legitimacy, but now I knew more— more than I ever wanted to. My stomach twisted at the thought of confronting him.
A knock on the door broke the silence, and Payal's soft voice followed. "Mrs. Agnihotri, Mr. Chauhan is here."
I inhaled sharply. Of course, he'd arrive before Rahul. It was almost as if he knew I'd be expecting him. I sat straighter, adopting a composed expression as Payal opened the door. The man I'd been waiting for had arrived. "Send him in."
A moment later, Raghav Chauhan stepped into my office. His sharp gaze instantly latched onto me, his lips curling into that unnervingly charming smile. He exuded confidence, power-danger, cloaked in tailored suits and smooth words.
"Yuvika," he greeted, his voice dripping with something more than just casual politeness. The way he said my name made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. I could sense something beneath the surface— something deeper, more personal. He moved with a predator's grace, taking the seat opposite my desk as though it were his right.
"Mr. Chauhan," I said, forcing calm into my voice as I stood from my chair. His presence, while polished, carried a weight I couldn't ignore. "I wasn't expecting you today."
"Perhaps you should have," he replied smoothly, settling into the chair. "We seem to keep crossing paths, don't we? It's almost like fate."
My eyes narrowed at the comment. "I don't believe in fate."
"Then maybe it's something else," he said, leaning back and regarding me with a knowing smile. "You and I have more in common than you think."
The ambiguity in his words set me on edge, but I maintained my composure. "You came here for a reason, Mr. Chauhan. What is it?"
He gave a soft chuckle, tilting his head as if amused by my directness. "Always straight to the point. I like that about you, Yuvika. You don't waste time."
I remained standing, arms crossed, waiting for him to drop the pleasantries. There was something about his tone that unnerved me— a mixture of interest and something darker. His charm was disarming, but I refused to let it affect me.
"You know, I've been watching you for quite some time," Raghav said, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Ever since you took over some responsibilities from your father. You have a way about you— a fire, a determination."
I kept my face impassive, though his words struck an uncomfortable chord. I didn't like the idea of Raghav 'watching' me. "I'm sure you didn't come here to compliment me, Mr. Chauhan. What do you want?"
