As the evening settled in and Rudra and Daksh disappeared into their rooms, the atmosphere shifted. Meera's forced smile slowly vanished, replaced by a cold, calculating expression. The façade of the doting stepmother fell apart as soon as there were no more eyes on her.
She sat back, her fingers tightening around the edges of her saree, her eyes scanning the empty living room. The warmth she projected earlier was gone, replaced by a bitterness that surfaced only when she was alone. Meera had always been cunning, and the return to this household wasn’t just for pleasantries. She had a plan, and the brothers' indifference only fueled her determination.
She glanced at her daughter, Mehak, who was still preening after her interaction with Daksh. "Remember why we’re here," Meera muttered under her breath, her voice sharp.
Mehak stormed into her room, slamming the door behind her. She was furious, her face flushed with frustration. No matter how hard she tried to impress her stepbrothers, they always brushed her off like she was insignificant. Daksh’s indifference, in particular, stung. She had put on her cutest act, but it was like he barely noticed her.
Throwing herself onto the bed, she let out a frustrated sigh, staring at the ceiling. “Why do they always treat me like this?” she muttered to herself, biting her lip in irritation. She hated being ignored, especially by people she wanted to control.
At night .....
Aayara quietly stepped out of her room, the dim light of the hallway casting soft shadows. The house was eerily silent, with only the faint ticking of a clock breaking the stillness. She felt uneasy as she walked down the corridor, her throat dry, craving water.
As she reached the kitchen, she noticed the faint light coming from the living room. Curiosity tugged at her, but she decided to focus on quenching her thirst. She filled a glass of water, taking small sips, calming her nerves.
Aayara froze mid-sip, her heart skipping a beat as a sharp, cold feminine voice sliced through the silence. Slowly turning around, she saw Meera standing in the doorway, her gaze piercing and unwelcoming.
"Who are you?" Meera demanded, her voice laced with authority and disdain, eyeing Aayara from head to toe, clearly displeased by her presence in the mansion.
Aayara turned to face Meera, her voice trembling slightly as she replied, "I—I’m Aayara. I’m... I’m one of the house’s... guests."
Meera’s eyes narrowed, her expression hardening as she scrutinized Aayara. “Guests, huh? It seems you’re not someone I’ve been properly introduced to. What are you doing here at this hour?”
Aayara’s voice quivered as she spoke, “I—I was just getting some water. I didn’t mean to intrude.”
Meera’s gaze remained cold, but she didn’t press further. “Very well. Be cautious. This house is not as welcoming as you might think.” With that, Meera turned and walked away, her sharp heels clicking on the floor.
Aayara took a deep breath, her heart still racing from the encounter. She quickly grabbed a glass of water and hurried back to her room, trying to shake off the unease from meeting Meera.
Aayara gasped as someone pulled her into Arjun's room. Her heart raced in fear and confusion. She turned to see who it was, her eyes wide with panic.
Arjun stood close to her, his intense gaze locked onto her. The dim light in the room cast shadows across his face, making his expression seem more ominous. Aayara's breathing quickened as she realized she was alone with him, the gravity of her situation weighing heavily on her.
Arjun: Smirking “Well, well, what a surprise. I’m quite agitated today and looking for something to help me unwind. How convenient that you’re here.”
Aayara: Fearfully “What do you want from me, Arjun? Please, just let me go.”
Arjun: Leaning closer “You signed the contract, remember? You’re here to fulfill your duties. So, what do you think? Do you want to make this easier for both of us?”
Aayara: Trembling “No, please... I don’t want this. Just let me go, I beg you.”
Arjun: Coldly “Begging won’t change anything. You’re here to serve, and you’re going to do just that. It’s either you cooperate or make things more difficult for yourself.”
Aayara: Crying “Please, just... just let me go. I’ll do anything, but not this.”
Arjun: With a dark smile “You’ve already agreed to this. It’s too late for second thoughts. Now, make your choice—suffer now or later.”
Arjun: Smirking “Did you forget why you’re here, Aayara? You signed a contract, and you’re bound to it. Now, why don’t you remind yourself of that?”
Aayara: Tears streaming down her face “I didn’t want this. I’m here because of my father...”
Arjun: Coldly “Exactly. You’re here because you had no other choice. So, make this easier on yourself and follow through. You know what’s expected of you.”
Aayara: Sobbing “Please... I can’t do this. I’m begging you.”
Arjun: Leaning in closer, voice low “You signed away your choice when you agreed to the contract. Now, let’s see if you can fulfill your part of the deal.”
Aayara: Shaking, voice breaking “Please, I’m terrified. I don’t want this.”
Arjun: With a cruel smile “Fear is a good motivator. Use it to remember why you’re here and what you have to do.”
