Author's POV
All the man could do was gasp for air as the smoke blinded his eyes and suffocated his lungs. He tried not to look beside him. At the dead body of his accomplice hanging upside down like a freshly slaughtered pig. Blood still dripped from his open wounds and cascaded down in a constant drip.
The man shook violently, trying to get away from the hot smoke, but it proved to be extremely difficult due to the fact that the bowl of burning coal with red chillies was right under him. Right under him as he hung upside down from the ceiling. His hands held tightly by a rope behind his back.
He hissed in pain as the scalding vapours drifted up and mingled with the open cuts that adorned his bare body. He tried to ignore it. The endless pain. The roaring terror. Tried to ignore Him.
"Please", he begged. Spit dripped down his chin and so did the tears. He craned his neck to look at the man sitting in the shadows. "Please. Let me go", he sobbed that turned into a fit of coughs as the smoke assaulted his nostrils and throat. He groaned and wiggled his body. But his struggle was useless. No amount of movements would free him of his bindings. There was no possibility of freedom from the double constrictor knot- a knot that was hard to untie once tightened. And tighten it did.
A perplexed sigh sounded from the shadows. The man blinked hard and tried to see. See his captor as he leaned forward. Two elbows settled on the knees with hands clasped before them. The man's eyes widened in horror as he saw what those bloodied hands toyed with. Bile rose up his throat as his captor threw the decapitated hand before him right into the bowl.
The man screamed as the hand burned with the coal. He gagged as the smell of charred flesh reached his nose. Revulsed, he watched the fire burn the limb slowly- skin, flesh, veins and arteries.
