Author's POV
Ayansh and his men reached the reception venue. He ordered his men to mingle in the crowd and look out for their target. Ayansh went in and put up an act of being interested in the event. He went up to the couple and congratulated them on their wedding. They smiled and thanked him. He walked through the crowd of people searching for the reason he came here for. He stood at a secluded spot with a drink in his hand observing his surroundings. His eyes went to the hosts of this party who were engrossed in each other.
Seeing them look at each other so lovingly made Ayansh scowl. Give it a few years and there will be news of their divorce, he thought. He hated seeing people like this. People in love. People who lose their self-respect and dignity, for what? Just to be with one person?! He believed it to be stupid. Of course his family was full of it, but they were different. They valued each other, respected each other and did not restrict each other.
Love is a boundary, a restriction, a type of bondage that ties your wings and inhibits you from soaring high. It is full of fake words and empty promises. Why should a person adjust and compromise their life for someone else? He thought. The only thing that a person receives after dismantling their entire lives for someone is betrayal, pain and a void. A void that can never be filled by anything.
That was him now. An endless void. No amount of light could brighten him up. He once believed in the vows of living together till the end of our lives. But now he felt that love is a curse, one that will end his life.
You mean a lot to me Ayansh.
I love you so much.
We will run away and marry each other.
I can't live without you Ayansh.
The whispers of the past entered his mind crowding his senses. The sweet nothings that destroyed everything.
I hate you Ayansh.
You are worthless.
You are not capable of love.
You were just a means to an end.
The ghosts of his past snapped him back to reality. Now he knew better than to believe anything that was told to him. Life was the best teacher and it had taught him to not succumb to anyone's words. He had vowed to never bend down to anyone.
He cleared his mind and removed his gaze from the couple. His ear piece came to life and Kaushik's voice bled through it. "Boss, he has entered the lawn". A smirk grazed his lips as he spotted him making his way towards the hosts. He placed his glass on the table beside him and walked to the opposite side of the fountain, right across from him. He signaled his men to take their positions.
Dev Mittal congratulated the couple and turned to take in the place. As he looked around his eyes locked with the person he didn't want to come across. His heart raced in fear as he saw a dark smile play on Ayansh Ranawat's face.
Ayansh felt glad seeing his fear. You should fear me you bastard, he thought. How dare he go after my sister!! Before he could take a step forward the music was played as the guests gathered cheered and applauded when the couple joined the dance floor. Soon the crowd moved as more and more people joined the dance floor.
Dev Mittal took the opportunity and hid himself in the crowd. Ayansh cursed and signalled his men to look for him. The place was big and the people in great number. He rushed through the crowd as his eyes searched for Dev Mittal. He pushed his way through the crowd impatiently. Where the hell did he go?
Ayansh looked around and his gaze landed on the man sneaking into the hedge maze. He smirked as he made his way towards the maze.
Little did he know, they were not the only ones entering the maze.
Author's POV
Ishani almost crashed into someone because she was busy admiring the view. It was sunset and the blend of the orange and blue hues created a beautiful scenery. The lights and decorations enhanced it more. Her eyes brightened as she spotted the host of the event. She walked to her and stood behind her. She tapped her on the shoulder and the woman turned to look back. Her eyes widened as she engulfed Ishani in a hug.
"Oh my god after so long" she screamed while her husband laughed looking at the two. Ishani chuckled as she stumbled a bit due to the force of the hug. "Rosie I think you should let go because your husband might just kill me due to jealousy" Ishani exclaimed playfully as Rosie aka Rose Fernandez, now Rose D'costa , glared at her. Ishani had met Rose 4 years back when their fathers had struck a deal. The two girls had bonded quickly on their first meet. Rosie was a cheerful ray of sunshine. It had been years since the two had met.
"No he won't" Rose said as she glared at her husband who just laughed lovingly a his wife. "You two carry on" he said and nodded at Ishani who acknowledged it with a smile. "Tell me everything" Ishani says as she drags Rose along with her to sit at the beautiful fountain.
"Well there's nothing much to say. We met through a dating app and went on a date and well rest is history" Rosie blushed and Ishani teased her. "Seriously though" Ishani said "How have you been? He is good to you right? You can call me anytime if you need help okay." She says. Rose smiles and pats her hand "He is really good. I couldn't have asked for better" she says with a smile "And what about you Ishani? Have you found anyone?" she asks with a playful glint. "You know I am not interested in dating right?" Ishani says with a sad smile. "But still" Rose whines "Someone must have caught your eye?" she says.
Ishani freezes as her mind goes to him. Nope, we are not going there, she tells herself.
"Oh please, no one is good enough to hold an appeal" she says and flicks her hair. Both of them laugh and spend the better part of the evening talking about their lives. Soon Rose's husband comes and takes her away for a dance. Music weaves through the air as people join the dance floor. Couples dancing gracefully while lovingly staring at each other.
Ishani sighs looking at them, her heart heavy. She looks around at people enjoying themselves when her eyes fall on a familiar figure. She narrows her eyes. Is that Dev Mittal? She thinks, remembering him from Udaipur. What is he-
Her thought halts as she sees Mr.Ranawat going behind him. She stands still as she sees both of them disappear in the maze. Before she could process what she just saw, she sees a masked figure enter the maze discreetly. But that is not why she frezees.
Her heart stops as she sees the gun in his hand.
