Ishani's POV

2 days later

I blink groggily as I sit up in bed. I stretch my leg slowly and exhale in relief at the absence of pain. My leg had started hurting so I had taken a painkiller after lunch which put me straight to sleep. I rub my eyes and look around the dark room. It's too quiet. The sun has almost set leaving tones of orange and blue dancing in the skies. I check the time. My eyes widen. "It's 7 pm?! Ugh this pill put me in a fucking coma", I mumble as I slowly get out of bed.

A weird feeling lodges itself in my mind. Something is different. There is no sound coming from downstairs. It's 7 pm. Everyone should be home. Ayansh should be home. I check my phone but find no missed calls or texts. Worry gnaws at my throat as I slowly go out of my room. I don't need the crutch anymore but I still hold the wall as precaution.

My feet pad on the cold floor as I enter the dark hallway. Why is it so dark? Why hasn't anyone switched on the lights? I use the flashlight of my phone and head to the stairs. My footsteps and heavy breaths are the only sound echoing in the house. It's eerily quiet.

Where is everyone? Everyone went for their work in the morning and even dadu went to meet some of his friends, so I just stayed up in my room. One of the maids brought lunch for me. Now that I think of it, even the servants seem to be gone. Where is Ayansh? Ever since he came home late that night he has been very quiet. He made no attempt to talk to me. Even in the morning he left earlier than usual. I huff in frustration and confusion.

Why isn't anyone home?!

As I slowly made my way down guided by the small flashlight of my phone, I felt something soft under my feet. I was about to call out to see if anyone would respond when lights flashed. I gasped as I saw the entire staircase covered with soft red rose petals. The stairs were lined by lights.

What is this? I switched off the flashlight and headed down the stairs. The petals don't end at the stairs nor do the small lights. I smile as I see where they lead to. I follow the petal covered path to the dining room.

The moment I step inside the dining table illuminates with soft white lights. A light chuckle leaves my lips as I walk on the soft flowers towards the table. My breath catches as I see the table covered in petals. My heart beats wildly as I realise what is happening. The house is empty. And this decoration-

Butterflies erupt in my stomach as I see the table. My gaze fixates on the petals arranged to form one singular word that fills me with happiness and guilt at the same time.
