Ishani's POV

"Ok stop STOP. Stop thinking like that!!" Shreya says as she sits across me applying ice to my neck. "How can I not?!" I exclaimed. "We haven't talked at all. It's been 2 days!!" I said anxiously. "The engagement is a week away Shreya. A WEEK!!". She looks so done with this discussion.

"Okay. What do you expect him to say? Oh hey Ishani. Do you remember we kissed at your store?" she mocks "Of course you guys were going to kiss. You are getting engaged for god's sake. Don't overthink this!!" she says frustratedly as we have been going about this for the past hour. I huff as she makes me sit still.

After we paid the bills none of us said a word to each other. He went his way and I went mine. I mean, what would I even say? What does one even say after doing THAT?! I was already feeling very awkward because everyone was staring at my neck. Fuck that bastard for doing this!!

We haven't contacted each other in the last two days. My mother wouldn't look me in the eye the whole ride back home. Father had just taken one look at me and scoffed. He had muttered something as he went back inside but I had caught it. Nonetheless I was used to his insults.

Opportunistic. Slut. whore.

I have heard them every time I had a fling and he would see evidence of it. Yes, I am not a virgin. A girl has needs. I don't do relationships and I have never committed to anyone. This arrangement has always been convenient for me. But it changes now. I am getting engaged now. And even while Shreya was right that we are getting engaged so these things are bound to happen, I cannot help but let father's voice fill my head. His usual insults kept resurfacing for the past two days.

And the fact that he hasn't texted, well anything, makes father's voice stronger in my head.

"What's wrong?" Shreya asks as she sees me suddenly go silent. "It's just- I" I sigh.

"When everything was decided that day, we talked. I told you what he said. That he cannot- I cannot" I pause "Basically that we won't have a relationship of, well a couple." I complete.

"Right" she says warily. "And then this happens" I say pointing to my neck. "Isn't this the opposite of what we decided? And then we haven't even talked yet-" I halt as my eyes widen. "What if he regrets it already?" I say the thought, making my heart clench. Shreya snorts, "Oh he does not regret it" she claims. "How would you know that?" I ask her confused. "Uh because even though you were ignoring him- uh yes I did see you ignore him, he wasn't. He was trying to talk but you shut him out and left immediately. So no, he definitely doesn't regret it. And if you have so many doubts, talk to him. You have his number. What are you waiting for?" she says and her words make me wonder. Should I text him? Nah that would be too dry. Should I call him?
