Ruffling of papers , clacking of keyboards and voices of people was all that could be heard. The employees of Lasya were all too tensed because their boss had come back from her meeting with foreign investors. One that had not gone so well, or so they said. Among all the noise one sound was perfectly clear. A sound that made everyone stop their work. One that made sweat bead on their foreheads. People gulped as they turned nervously to see the creator of that sound.
The clicking of heels on the white marbled floor grew louder and louder. And there she was in all her glory , the CEO of Lasya. Ishani Agnihotri.
Her aura screamed power. She was like a jeweled knife. Graceful but lethal.
She stopped as she sensed her employees looking at her. She looked up from her phone. Her sharp gaze bore into everyone. "Is it a new protocol to stop working when anyone walks these floors? Or is the special treatment just for me?", she questioned in a cold voice that sent shivers down everyone's spines.
She exhaled, clearly frustrated by their antiques. Her patience were already running thin. "Get back to work. All of you. I want reports of the week's work on my desk by the end of the day. Am I clear?". A chorus of yes was heard and she walked to her cabin. Everyone let out the breath they were holding when the door of her cabin closed behind her and got back to their work.
Ishani's POV
I sat on my chair with a deep sigh. The jet lag was making things more difficult.
I was not only frustrated but also angry. I had worked so hard for this deal. My employees had worked day and night, without complaining. It wasn't their fault that their client turned out to be a piece of shit.
"It's not your fault", Shreya , her best friend said, as she entered her cabin. I chuckled , "How does your boss let you leave so frequently? Apne office se jyada toh mere cabin hoti hain tu"
( translation- you are present in my cabin more than you office )
"Ab mera boss mera hi bhai ho toh, it makes things easier" she said with a smile.
( translation- since my boss is my brother )
Shreya has been my best friend since we were kids. We went to the same school and attended the same college. She has an elder brother just like me. Who is very caring just like mine. My heart felt heavy as I thought about him. Shreya noticed and immediately spoke up
"So whom do I have to hit now? What do we need ? Wait let me make a list" she said taking out her phone. "A knife? Hockey stick? Or are my shoes enough?" she asked wiggling her eyebrows. Gods this girl, I thought and smiled. She is literally my ray of sunshine.
"Tere bass mein hota toh har uss insaan ko maar deti jo tere raste me aaye" I said. "And you don't even know anything . So calm down".
( translation - if it were in your control then you would kill every person who crosses you )
She sits on the couch in my cabin and patts the seat beside her. I go and sit with her. "I know everything. Your assistant called me the moment you landed" she said. I face palmed. Hey bhagwan. My assistant , Kevin , is a really sweet man who can never handle my temper and always calls Shreya at the slightest indication of me bring on the verge of exploding.
"He really shouldn't do that you know" I said. Shreya huffs, "Ok now don't be angry on Kevin for calling –"
"Not Kevin. Your brother. He really shouldn't let you go so easily." She looked away with a frustrated look. She hates when I bring up this topic. "Nahi Shreyu seriously. If he lets you go off so easily it will be unfair to other employees." She tried to speak but I stopped her. " I know you must have come after completing your work and I know that you never compromise with your job , but still the others might feel that he's being lenient because you are his sister."
"Lenient my ass. He is a whole different person in the office. I thought working for him would be easy but it isn't. He even makes me work at home" she whined. I laughed at her and soon she joined. " He let me go for you. I told him everything and he knew you needed me" she said with a smile. "So tell me what's wrong" she said sitting up straight.
I narrated the whole fiasco about how that client was interested in our designs and reached out to us. They were from Italy and I thought this was a good opportunity to expand and reach out to more clients out of india. I already have two branches , one in France and one in America. We had conversed on calls and they had told us their requirements and after few virtual meetings we had decided to meet them in Italy. My employees and designers were working so hard for this deal. But when we reached their headquarters in Milan I was shell shocked because-
"These idiots had already approached a different brand who were not responding to them. So they called as. We were literally their back up option. And they didn't even have the decency to inform us that they had chosen another designer for their event. No call. No email. I found out after landing in Italy" I said, my anger clearly resurfacing. "It was so humiliating" I closed my eyes, pinching the bridge of my nose.
"What the hell! That is so wrong. Tell me you didn't stay quiet" Shreya says clearly furious on my behalf.
I smirked and opened my eyes. " Oh I definitely didn't. You see when I reached there they were having a meeting with their 'first option'. So I barged in and told them everything. And I might've let it accidentally slip that the company was doing this event to cover up their fraud case that is going on" I said .
"Oh that was totally an accident" Shreya laughed. "So I believe they don't have a designer now." I nodded affirmatively. I could still remember their faces when those designers left and how they lashed out on me. But the look on their faces when I threatened them to expose the evidences I had that proved them guilty, oh that was another level of joy. I smiled internally.
I always do a background check of every client I associate with. I have a very strong tech team. Its always better to have leverage because you never know the person in front of you is a tame dog or a wolf. But a dog nonetheless. Shreya's voice drew me out of my thoughts.
"You know what. Enough sulking you have done. We are going out for dinner." She said and clapped her hands. It has been so long since we've sat down and had some quality time. This was a good idea. I really needed a distraction. I got up from the couch, "Fine. Dinner it is then."
I hoped you liked the first chapter. What do you think of Ishani?
PS- this is my first story so it might seem cringe in the beginning but will e improved later.
