Ayansh age 15
I check my watch for the upteenth time as I glance at the shop.
God how much longer?
A frustrated sigh leaves me. I don't want to be here. I hate being here. All I want to do is go home. But no, my parents just had to send me here, didn't they?! Why can't they understand? Sometimes I think that they don't care for me at all. I mean they love me for sure. But I don't think they care for me. Not the way they care for Laksh, Avyaan and Yuvika. Not that I am jealous. Because I am not. They are my siblings and I care for them a lot.
I look down at my watch and smile as iI see the iron man image on the dial behind the small hands. Yuvika had gifted this to me on my birthday. "You are my Iron Man. Laksh bhai is my Captain America and Avyaan bhai is my Thor" she had said with a smile that had a tooth missing. We had laughed at her but my heart had warmed at the adorable gesture.
I sigh as I look up at the orange sky. The sun has almost set. I push my hands in the pocket of my jeans and lean on the wall behind me as I miss papa and our evening chess sessions.
Papa is very busy with work so it is difficult for him to make time for us. So when he comes home from work he makes sure to spend some time with all four of us. Laksh and I share a room while Avyaan and Yuvika have a room beside ours. So some nights papa tells them a bedtime story and some nights he spends time with us. Three days of the week for them and three for us. And on sundays, all of us go to the roof of our house and there papa and chachu build a small tent for us and tell us horror stories. Our parents always spend time with us despite their busy schedules.
But with me, papa has a bigger duty, he says. He says that he has to train me, teach me how to navigate a business. Ever since I remember, I have always heard that I will be the next CEO after papa. They never ask me if I want to be the CEO. They just tell me that Ayansh you will be the CEO one day. Few years ago I wanted to be a cricketer. Last year I wanted to be a scientist. I don't know what I want anymore.
I think I should listen to papa and be the CEO.
Papa trains me for it after all. Every week in the evening before dinner he plays chess with me.
You have to be the king Ayansh. The king rules it all. You have to plan and strategize and execute well. But in doing so you must not underestimate the pawn. When you let the pawn make a move, you give it power. It strikes for you, kills for you. But at the end you must remember that you are the king and he is the pawn. Take back that power. Because when you let them thrive on your power, they think themselves entitled to it and try to snatch it. But you don't let them. Because no matter the outcome, in the game of chess, the winner is always a king. And do you know what makes the king more powerful and invincible? His queen
