Ishani's POV
"Do not mess this up", father says. I sigh as he has given me the same speech for god knows how many times. I lost count after five. I roll my eyes as I sit on the chair in my suite as my family stares at me.
"I am serious Ishani. Many impotant people will be there, not to mention the press", he says sternly. "Oh please. I am used to the press, unlike you. Unfortunately not everyone is blessed with success and fame." I say pointedly and smile at his fuming face. "Don't worry papa", he scowls at the term, "I can handle it well".
I see Ishaan bhai and Vidhi bhabhi observing us but I couldn't care less. I have avoided them ever since that day. They tried to talk to me. Bhai even stayed up late one night. But I came home at 3 in the night and found him fast asleep on the sofa in the living room.
A part of me felt hurt. The kind of pain you feel when you want something that is right in front of you but still just out of reach. That is how I felt everytime I saw bhai and bhabhi. Bhabhi has been unwell ever since that day. Just because I wasn't home didn't mean that I did not notice. Mother had called them at their place but they refused to leave my apartment. I know that bhai was in contact with her doctor. Know that she is been given a new set of medications.
My eyes turn to her as she sits with bhai and my mother, who is busy fussing over her daughter-in-law. I hide the small sad smile that plays over my lips. Sad, but still a smile.
My eyes wander to bhabhi's hand that rests on her stomach. She deserves to be kept happy in this time. But I couldn't help but feel the sad that I won't be involved in that little kidd's life. I sigh.
No Ishani, I tell myself, not this today. Today is your engagement and you are going to enjoy it.
My eyes fall on the lehenga that I am going to be wearing for and after the rituals. My lips quirk as I remember the 'incident' at the store. God, why can't my mind think about anything other than Him?!
"Are you even listening to me?", father shouts and my eyes snap to his as he bangs the dressing table before me. His face close to mine as he glares at me angrily. I gulp and inhale shakily. "Papa", bhai says, his tone hard. I scowl, "Get the fuck away from me", I seethe as I push him away and he stumbles back. I stand and walk towards the bathroom.
