Ishani's POV

"What the fuck happened 5 years ago?" I ask sharply and Laksh gulps nervously. Vivaan looks at Ayansh while Kaushik shifts in his seat.

Ayansh and Laksh seem to have a silent conversation. Ayansh pats his hand and Laksh gives a small nod. He turns to me.

"Five years ago, when I was 20, our company had faced a major hit. Bhai was 22 at that time and papa had already started involving him in our business ever since he turned 18. On paper, everything was done by papa but a major part was played by bhai."

"The board of directors did not agree with papa's decision to make bhai the CEO. They thought that he was too young but papa and dadu disagreed. Everyone knew how good he was at the job. He deserved to be the CEO."

"Papa's health deteriorated a lot that year. Which is why bhai became the CEO at 24, two years later." he pauses.

I give him time to collect himself and wait patiently. Ayansh's eyes watch his shoes as his hand holds his brother's tightly.

"Papa had struck a deal with one of our biggest rivals in hopes to salvage the competition and avoid further conflicts. At the same time there were many disagreements going on with the board of directors over papa's decision. Papa wanted to make bhai the CEO at 23, but they disagreed. We thought that age was the only reason for this conflict."

Laksh shakes his head.

"We later found out that the deal papa struck with the rivals was altered by them. When papa found out and he confronted them, they refused the accusations. A case was filed in court and papa hired chachu as his lawyer. Chachu worked hard and had finally found evidence, and then the real reason for the board of directors' disapproval came to light. One of them had betrayed us to our rivals. He had blackmailed and threatened the other members of the board to reject bhai's ascension."

I stare at him, shocked by this piece of information. I feel a tinge of anger at this betrayal and sorow for Trilok uncle.
