Author's POV
Ishaan and Vidhi sit on the bed of the guest room of Ishani's apartment. Ishaan sighs as he ends the call with his father. "What happened?" Vidhi asks, looking concerned. "The usual" he shakes his head. "I just. I hadn't believed him all this time and when we came here I prayed to god that what he said should not be true" Ishaan runs a hand through his hair as he closes his eyes. "I don't understand. Don't understand how she changed so much!!" he says tiredly. "We should talk to her. We cannot jump to conclusions-" Vidhi begins but Ishaan cuts her off.
"Jump to conclusions?! I am not jumping to conclusions!! You saw how she was behaving with us. Do you have any other explanation for this other than what father said?!!" he says angrily. He gets off the bed. "She is my sister Vidhi. My little sister!! You think I want to believe all this?!!" his voice breaks at the end.
Vidhi looks at him with sorrow as he sits back on the bed. His hands fist his hair in agitation as his head hangs low. "Ishaan" Vidhi calls him as she sits beside him. "Hey" she says softly.
"I don't want to believe this. She is my sister. I know her, okay. I know her!! I-" he pauses as tears roll down his cheeks. "What did papa say?" Vidhi asks, referring to his call.
"Papa said the same thing that he has said for the past two years. She has changed. She has become addicted to money. She does not listen to them anymore. That she does not meet them or talk to them because they don't run in those high circles as her. The same nonsense about her being selfish and leaving us. He said that she is jealous of me. He fucking believes that she is marrying to prove some stupid point of being superior than us. Like hell she is doing that" Ishaan scoffs.
"I never thought that my Ishu would become this person" he sobs. "No," Vidhi says sharply. "No Ishaan. Do not believe those words. Do not believe anything until we talk to her about this. Until she says all that herself. Ishani is not a fool and she is not selfish. We both know it. You hear me? We both know it" she says sharply.
Ishaan opens his mouth to speak but they hear the sound of the door opening and Ishani's voice fills the apartment. Ishaan and Vidhi leave the room as they spot Ishani in the living room talking on her phone.
They see her lock the door and install the safety locks that they weren't able to figure out.
"Yes aunty. Don't worry I reached home safely." Ishaani says as she turns with a smile. "Haa aunty puja bahot ache se hui." she continues unaware of her bhai and bhabhi's presence. "Are thank you kya usme. You are my family now, then why won't I buy gifts for you?!" she says politely as she sits on the couch.
Ishaan's heart breaks hearing her words. This is the sister he knew. The sweet, polite , kind, mature and caring sister. His heart broke listening to her talk to her soon to be in - laws with so much love and yet be so cold to her own brother. Why god?? Whyy??!! He thought.
