Ishani's POV
The only thing I register are my laboured breaths as I step away from the staircase and move away. Far away. As far away as possible. I hear someone calling my name. Bhabhi maybe? I can't be sure.
I walk fast. Then faster. Even faster. My vision blurs as I pant.
My mind is a mess of thoughts that flow too fast for me to grasp on a single one. Too fast for me to latch onto them and ponder over them. Buth there's no need to ponder is there? It's clear. It's all clear. A disgruntled laugh escapes my lips at my pitiful state.
My feet halt as two voices fall on my ears. Their auditions so familiar yet distant. I have to blink and physically pull myself away from my mind. Snapping back to focus my eyes widen as I realise that I have been standing outside a small tool shed hearing the voices of father and Trilok uncle.
Without thinking I pushed open the door. They both startle as the door bangs on the wall. My father looks at me angrily while Trilok uncle snaps out of his shock and smiles at me.
"Ishani beta. What are you doing here?" he asks as he comes towards me. "I could ask the same uncle" I say as I glance at my father warily. He grits his teeth and his eyes flash in warning which make mine narrow in suspicion. "Well I would answer but I myself don't know what I am here for" uncle says and looks back at my father who changes his expression. "Why did you call me here by the way?" he asks and father shrugs.
"I am sure you can discuss that over dinner" I say with a suggestive smile and uncle nods. "It is time for dinner isn't it" he says checking the time. He smiles and pats my head and leaves the shed. I close the door partially as I step into the shed. Father looks up at the ceiling and sighs.
"What were you going to do?" I ask harshly and his eyes snap to mine. "None of your business" he grunts and makes to leave. "But it is my business when you lied to me about bhabhi being pregnant" I seethe barely controlling my anger and he freezes. A beat of tense silence passes and he slowly turns to me. His eyes crinkle in amusement and to my horror he starts laughing.
He fucking laughs.
His laugh grates on my senses causing a wave of anger to rush through me.
"Why did you lie?!!" I press and he shakes his head. His laugh dies down. "Did I though? Did I lie?" he clicks his tongue at my state of confusion.
What does he mean?
"I know that you are a conniving liar but mother would never lie" I spat. "You're right. She didn't" he shrugs. My lips part but no words come out. Confusion has rendered me speechless. A state I would never want to be in front of my father.
"It's not my fault you came to your own conclusions" he says with a smile. I gulp. "What really happened that day, Ishu?" he says. A shiver goes down my spine at what he called me.
