Chapter 99 - Even the strongest people need to be protected

"Why am I not allowed to be in there too?! I should be helping Michiyo get in!" Todoroki was annoyed he was told to wait outside of U.A. until the noise level died down. Will it ever die down though? The insults and abusive words were getting louder and louder. Todoroki was angry because he could hear them call Michiyo a whore for Dabi. "They know nothing about her and they're saying all that...!" 

"It's because they know nothing that's why they can easily say it." Endeavor kept Todoroki out here because he knew his own son will lash out at those people for Michiyo. He knew Todoroki will go against the wishes of the civilians just for Michiyo. It's not about protecting anyone's image or anything but Endeavor could not let a riot full of civilians using their Quirks against the Heroes who were left to break out. Heroes were already retiring as days went by. 

"Michiyo..." Todoroki wanted to be in there and stand by her side. "Damn it...!" He wanted to go in there and protect her! He didn't want to wait here! 

"Shouto." His father called his youngest son's name. "Just wait." 

Anger flared under the cold rain. Noise level increased with heated intensity as the people spoke up. 

They did not want Midoriya Izuku in U.A. because they're scared of attracting Shigaraki and All For One to them. They did not wish to die so they'd rather not have a bomb placed near them. They did not want Sakura Michiyo who sympathize with Dabi to be in U.A. because they did not approve of a Hero who could save a Villain at the cost of another Hero's life. They especially did not want Sakura Ranfa to be in U.A. because they all saw the stream where she saved Kirishima instead of the streamer.

The civilians just wanted to live in peace in the shelter. They were all scared of being part of the death toll. Their fears were not misplaced and they did make arguments that made sense...but at the same time they seem to have forgotten their own humanity.

"How dare you sympathize and protect Dabi of all people?!"

"You chose to save that boy who can harden himself but you let HeroismInAction die?! Fuck you, Sakura Ranfa! You're the one who should have been crushed!" The streamer Ranfa failed to save was someone very popular in the MeTubing community. The streamer often get himself in trouble because he's trying to record and stream the battles between Heroes and Villains by getting too close for liking. Other Heroes often tell him one day he will die but the streamer saw views going up as well as revenues so he kept up this behavior because he knew he will always be rescued...up until there's a Hero who chose not to rescue him...that Hero was Ranfa. 

"And now you're pregnant?! Screw you! You're one of the strongest U.A. students and you're choosing to be a mother over protecting us?! Running away from your responsibilities! Don't fuck with us!" 

Ranfa expected this. She held her sister's hand because she knew even if the people hated her, she will always have her sister by her side. 

"Onee..." Michiyo too. She knew the people will be worked up like this. Michiyo could tell she's thinking about the same thing as Ranfa. "Onee, are you sure?" 

"I am sure." 

"Ranfa." Kirishima had a feeling he knew what Ranfa and Michiyo were thinking about. 

"Kirishima. It's pushing it if you all try to bring all three of us back. I'd rather give that chance to Midoriya." 

"Hm." 

"...?!" But Midoriya did not want that. "Ranfa-san...Michiyo-san..." 

"Midoriya, we made mistakes. I don't regret making the mistake because I know I did the right thing to me. Michiyo is the same. The line between right and wrong, the two of us can see it. That's why they don't want us. We will continue to be Heroes in our own way. But you...you need to continue to be a Hero who can shoulder all of their hopes and dreams." Ranfa smiled at Midoriya, "I believe you will do well so make sure to rest well."
