Author's POV:

Katherine stormed into her room, slamming the door behind her. Her chest heaved with each laboured breath as if the weight of her emotions was crushing her lungs. Everywhere she looked, reminders of her solitary existence glared back.

Happy couples, their joyous smiles mocking her. Her best friends had found their soulmates. Katherine's eyes stung, envy and insecurity swirling within her.

Memories of Jayden's betrayal still lingered, the wounds raw. She had loved him with every fibre, but he repaid her devotion with deceit. The pain had barely bummed over when Vidharth entered her life. Their passionate nights had promised something more, but he ruthlessly discarded her, showing how her relationship might affect her and his sister's bond.

Katherine's gaze fell upon her reflection in the vanity mirror. Her eyes blazed with frustration, her face twisted in anguish. She snatched the paperweight from her desk, its weight solid in her palm.

With a small scream, she hurled the paperweight at the mirror. Glass shattered, splintering into a thousand shards.

The room fell silent, except for Katherine's ragged breathing. She stood amidst the destruction, her anger spent but her sorrow still simmering. Tears streamed down her face, mingling with the shattered glass.

"Why?" she whispered to the broken mirror. "Why can't I find love?"

Her reflection stared back, fragmented and distorted, just like her fractured heart.

She felt lost, invisible, and unlovable. The fragments of her reflection seemed to mock her, a cruel reminder of her brokenness.

She sank to the floor, surrounded by the wreckage of her emotions. Her body shook with sobs, her heart heavy with the weight of her failed relationships.

"Why do I always fall for those who don't want me?" she cried out, her voice cracking.

Memories of Jayden's lies and Vidharth's rejection flooded her mind. She relived the pain, the humiliation, and the disappointment.

As she wept, Katherine's thoughts turned to her friends' happy marriages. Kanvi and Winter had found their soulmates.

"Why can't that be me?" Katherine whispered, her voice barely audible.

Katherine took a deep breath, walking herself for the dinner ahead. She washed her face, the cool water soothing her flushed skin. The tears had left her eyes puffy, but she hid the evidence with a few deft strokes of mascara.

Downstairs, the aroma of roasted chicken and steamed vegetables filled the air. Her mother, elegantly dressed as always, smiled warmly. "Katherine, darling, how was your day?"

Katherine forced a smile, dodging the concern in her mother's eyes. "It was fine, Mom. Just a long day."

As they sat down to eat, her mother's gaze lingered. "I thought I heard a noise coming from your room earlier. Was everything okay?"

Katherine's heart skipped a beat. She hadn't prepared an excuse. "I...I got a bit lightheaded and stumbled," she said, feigning nonchalance. "I accidentally broke my vanity mirror."

Her mother's brow furrowed. "Are you feeling alright, sweetie? You've been working too hard, haven't you?"

Katherine nodded, grateful for the diversion. "Yeah, maybe. I'll be fine, Mom."

She requested the housekeeper to clean up the broken glass, and the conversation shifted to Winter's day at Ean's grandparents.

After dinner, Katherine excused herself, seeking solace in the garden's quiet environment. The evening air carried the sweet scent of blooming flowers. She strolled along the winding path, her footsteps making rustling sounds on the gravel.
