Vihaan's POV:
After 1 month.......
She has been distant, aloof, and cold since that day. All she did was walk up early in the morning and go for a walk or a run. I've been cooking her food, as her cut hasn't healed yet. She greets me good morning, eats the food, goes to college and returns at 8 in the evening.
Initially, it scared me to see her come late but upon Noah following for 3 days straight, I got to know that she was working as a part-timer under the Operations Manager at Pinnacle Ventures Inc.
To be honest it's bothering me. It's been a week and I'm not getting any time to talk to her. Either she says she is busy or goes to sleep early. And in all this, she was not getting any time to pay a visit to the hospital. Anvi was worried about her and she went mute.
I need to ask her today why she chose a start-up company when she can work in both her brother's and mine. It's not gonna make any difference. Does it?
Or maybe it will. In the span of these 5 months of our marital life, not once did she use my card other than for Ean's surgery which she paid back.
The door clicked open and I stood up. She looked tired. I stood up and she flinched with my unannounced presence.
" I'm sorry." I chuckled nervously and she passed me a small smile. "It's alright, I'm being daft to get spooked about everything." She mumbled and walked to her room.
It's getting harder and harder to talk to her. I walked to her room and stopped before she could go in.
" I need to have a word with you," I said and she nodded.
"I'll go and refresh myself, then join you for dinner. We can discuss things over the meal." She looked at me and I affirmed. Her behaviour changed. Her jolly self died. She used to make fun of my Indian English but no more. She stopped that mischievous girl from coming out. All I see is a mature woman taking up the responsibilities.
She rarely speaks to Vidarth and ends the call as soon as she sees Yayin's number.
I made the Matar Panner and Rogan Josh ordered the Garlic naan and put the rice to cook. I set the table and she smiled at me. Not a true one though.
I plated the food and passed her and she muttered a thank you.
" You are late these days," I spoke tearing the naan and she looked up at me pausing her actions.
" Uh... um... I've just started as a trainee at Pinnacle Ventures Inc., reporting to the Operations Manager. To be honest, I'm getting a bit fed up sitting at home twiddling my thumbs for the other three days, so..." She left the rest for me to interpret and I read the pain in her eyes.
What are you hiding Kanvi? Am I not worth sharing your pain?
She ate a naan and some rice with the Rogan Josh calling it a night.
" Thank you for dinner, Vihaan. I appreciate your hard work and I promise to reciprocate in some way." She smiled and I was done. The threads that I've been holding for a month got loose.
I grabbed her hand and locked her between me and the kitchen island. What is she thinking of herself? "What do you mean by reciprocating my favour Kanvi? Am I giving you alms?" I barked and she looked at me unflinching like she got used to it.
" I was talking about cooking Vihaan. I meant that I'd cook once I'm alright. I didn't mean any other way." She whispered looking at me hurt. Fuck me! I misunderstood her.
" Kanvi, I'm sorry. I... I was just... fuck," I gave up and looked at her. She was still, looking a time with an understanding smile.
" It's alright Vihaan." She mumbled and turned to fetch her water sipper which was nowhere around. I grabbed it from the dining table and handed it to her and she drank the water.
