Scar, a Vex Hybrid(albeit a hidden one to outside people), and Grian, an Avian, get attacked and forced into an arena to fight.
Neither truly wants to do that, but there are many ways of persuasion...and then there's also whatever the heck they just injected Scar with.(hold up did I accidentally make a competent description for once-)
There is/can be trigger warnings for cannibalism and gore and stuff here btw just so you know(haven't written a scene like that but just saying this as a precaution). Anyway, this is my first time writing anything for a Vex Scar, so just roll with it cuz i'll bet some of these things aren't all that Vex-y
Scar cries out, curving his back as he raises his head in alarm. Grian can see the fangs come out as his friend opens his mouth, an instinctive reaction to being stabbed(as anyone else would have). The men release the chains on him, and Grian immediately spins with talons ready, managing to catch one across the face. The others are already backing away, and the injured one retaliates by striking him with the wooden side of his spear. The blow throws Grian back, collapsing onto the ground several feet away from Scar, who's on his knees, arms limp as his hands twitch and tense. His shoulders heave slightly and he's grunting, groaning as if biting back some form of pain or struggle. In fact, that's what Grian suspects is happening. He knows painfully little about these Hybrid fighting rings, but one thing he does know is that either the more vicious Hybrid species or those unwilling to fight are subjected to a certain drug that's rumoured to make them fall into their instincts and act on aggression. They lack all coherent thought, the humane brain basically becomes nonexistent. Whatever they just jabbed into Scar, that's what he's guessing it is.
Scar has very few indicators as to what sort of Hybrid he is, but they either don't know and assume this will show them, or figured it out–Scar's a Vex. The pointed ears, not long and moveable like an elf's, but mostly human and only pointed at the tips, the fangs and scars themselves, some of the things he says, even, and the marks on his back: pale, pale blue markings that look like tattered wings, because that's exactly what they are: remnants of his Vex wings. He refuses to use them, more often afraid of his more violent impulses that accompany the use of Vex wings and magic than willing to risk it. That would have instantly outed him for what he is. Either way, if he doesn't calm Scar down, this is going to end poorly, and even so, he might not be able to get out of here alive anyway. "Scar? How we–how we feelin', buddy?" He asks, and while he doesn't look at him, he sees Scar's arms tense with evident restraint. "Not so hot, huh?" Yep, definitely bad–Scar's trying so hard to keep himself under control, he can't even make a light quip back. "Just breathe. You'll make it through this. Deep breaths. Remember, you're Scar. My friend. I'm Grian. Your friend, not an enemy." Maybe a little silly to try and remind him, but Grian would rather make sure no measures are skipped. After all, this isn't just about his own survival–Scar would feel absolutely awful if he came to his senses and saw he hurt his friend. He tries so hard to curb his Vex impulses, do his best to be a safe person to be around, and for such a violent Hybrid species, it's impressive both he and Cub have managed it as they have.
The man makes a low seething noise, and hesitantly, Grian shuffles forward. He knows better than to get within arm's reach, but maybe if he knows Grian's there, it'd help? "I'm right here." He says gently, then jumps when a man suddenly bangs on the metal grate separating them from the arena's exit. "Oi! We haven't got all day, damn bird. Either you fight, or we'll find something that won't be as soft on you." He yells, half the threat lost by the fact whatever state of control Scar had is instantly destroyed and with a furious shout, he lunges at Grian, who quite literally squawks in alarm and jumps into the air, moving to get above and behind him. "Scar, calm down, it's me, remember? Grian. I'm not your enemy." He says, slowly but steadily, as his friend whips around to face him. In response, Scar charges again, beginning a chase where Grian does his utmost to avoid the Hybrid's attacks. The very last thing he wants to do is retaliate, but he also can't just stop and let Scar catch him, either. In this state, Scar will rip him apart.
