Yes I made puns, so what
Scoot is a Siren.
Martyn is a Pirate who had set out to track the beast and slay it.
Martyn was told Sirens sink ships and drown sailors.
Scott was told Pirates hunt the folks of the Sea and take their scales as prizes or to use in armour.
Well, turns out they're both wrong, and maybe they could both do with a friend
Or
Platonic Mean Gills AU (Pirate Martyn and Siren Scott bcs I want to; totally not procrastinating against finishing Sealed Life AU or I Threw Xerean Into The Other Life Series Bcs I'm Bored, no way)
Also I made Martyn(edit: Apo has an f bomb of his own now too so look out) swear so there's that–
I'll try and use it sparingly tho dw(we're a ((mainly)) pg-13 account here)
*This intro is gonna be really janky*
There was a new quest pinned on the board, Martyn had discovered.
A handsome reward to search for and defeat a Siren. One of the most dangerous creatures found in the sea, save for Krakens and the (thankfully) long-dead, great Sea-Dragons that could create powerful tidal waves with a flick of their tails. Martyn plans to go after it first, claim the reward before his fellow Kestrels or before the annoying Herons could claim discovery of it. Martyn's not heard of any rumours of a Siren for ages, he doubts almost anybody has in quite some time, actually. So long in fact that when he mentioned the creatures to Sausage, he recalled hearing that even the Herons had suspected them to be gone, too.
Skipping his typical investigations of Cruppy, he heads out late that night and sets sail for the...surprisingly distant island. The others may wonder where he went, but the reward is well worth the wait. They didn't specify what it would be, but they did promise that it would be far more than some pouches of gold. It may even be the One Piece(...of treasure) he's been looking for! And that is certainly worth facing a deadly sea monster. It's why he's here, after all.
*STORM TIME GUYS; this was made with great help from another wonderful writer. On Wattpad, they go by _Leefy_ so shoutout to them...also I may have made this harder for Martyn. Not sorry :)*
Martyn's been out at sea for what feels like(and very well may have been) weeks. Things aren't looking good for him; he's miles away from shore with no land in sight. He glances up at the sky, frowning at the darkening and swiftly forming clouds. It's going to rain pretty soon, and that'll make his already low mood worse. The clouds rumble ominously, an aggressive wind blowing from the east. The knowledge it blows westward admittedly helps him in no way, but serves to move his sail in the wrong direction, and therefore move Martyn's boat entirely. Looking at the thick, looming clouds closing in, Martyn decides this is a battle he'd rather not fight and moves to turn around.
Unfortunately, by then it is too late.
Fat, hard raindrops hit his back and the sides of his face, soaking into his clothes, and the waves grow choppier, seeking to capsize his vessel and claim his bones. Preferably, Martyn would like to avoid that, if he can. He isn't exactly invested in sleeping with the fishes. The wheel is hard to control; even with his strength, the Pirate can barely keep it in one place, let alone steer where he needs to go. A bolt of lightning flashes, illuminating his surroundings for a moment, the thunder booming so loud he can feel the sound vibrate in his chest. Rain pelts him even harder, seeping into every surface around him so he can't see very well and making everything slick and hard to hold onto. He keeps expecting lightning to hit the mast, glancing worriedly at the sky. But if he loses his sail, it's over for him. He'd be left defenseless, at the mercy of the waves, so he prays to whatever sort of god may exist for some luck.
