Two hours after Gia was born — after Isla cried rivers of happy tears at the first sight of her granddaughter and I selfishly kept her to myself before begrudgingly returning her to Sabrina — we piled into the cars and began the journey home. As soon as we left for the hospital Annalise told the maids to sanitize every inch of the mansion so it'll be ready for when Gia came home.
In the first few weeks babies are extremely vulnerable and susceptible to infections brought on by exposure to germs and bacteria. Before touching the baby it was advisable for people to wash their hands so any germs they may have won't be transferred onto the baby.
And since their immune systems wouldn't be properly developed until 3-5 months they totally depended on the antibodies and probiotics in the breast milk supplied by their mother.
As soon as we entered the mansion everyone congratulated Damen and Sabrina and crowded around the couple to steal a glance at the tiny bundle that lay fast asleep in Sabrina's arms. She was swaddled in the knitted blanket Isla gave to Sabrina and wearing the hat I made for her, looking adorable and so precious I swore right then and there to always keep her safe, to protect and shield her from the dangers and cruelties of this world.
After an hour Sabrina and Damen excused themselves to their room to have some alone time with their newborn. It was still dark outside, it only being three in the morning so everyone went back to bed. I however stayed on the couch with a throw blanket to cover my legs.
Valentino said they were only a few hours away so I thought of waiting for them. I wouldn't be able to fall asleep without him anyway as I'd spend the next few hours tossing and turning, feeling his absence like a void the size of a black hole.
Sighing, I leaned my head back against the couch to admire the decorations that had been put up for Christmas. Garlands, lights, wreaths, a white, twenty foot tall Christmas tree that had been decorated to the fullest and... mistletoe.
I blushed at the thought of kissing Valentino under the mistletoe on Christmas Day. I know I didn't need a special holiday to kiss my husband but...this just made it more fun, more...festive.
I don't know how long I stayed awake for but at some point in time I must've dozed off, lulled asleep by the dancing lights to dream my favorite dream: my loving but dangerous husband, with his charming smile, sexy body and sick, twisted personality that danced in sinful tandem with my own.

"The place is dark, everyone must be asleep," I observed as Father and I got out of the car.
"Let's not make any noise to wake them up," he said. "Come on, let's go inside."
Opening the front door we went in and removed our coats. The temperatures outside were freezing and a light snow had begun to fall from since we arrived in New York. As we entered the living room I stopped short when I saw Jasmine fast asleep on the couch with a throw blanket tossed over her.
"Why didn't she go to bed?" I wondered.
"Isn't it obvious son?" Father chuckled. "She can't fall asleep without you next to her. She probably decided to wait up for us and dozed off."
"She must be so uncomfortable with her neck in that position. I'll just take her to our room and put her to bed."
Placing Jasmine's arm around my neck I placed one hand under her thighs and used the other to support her back before effortlessly lifting her off the couch.
"See you in the morning...Nonno," I said teasingly.
"See you in the morning...Uncle Tino," Father returned my banter with a smile and patted me on my shoulder.
