"Would you like another slice of toast love?" Valentino asked, only for me to decline. I know I only had one slice of toast, a spoonful of eggs and a couple sips of coffee, hardly close to what I usually ate for breakfast, but like my emotions, my appetite seemed to be fluctuating more and more these days.
It's been three days since we found out that Kazimir was the one behind Adella's disappearance, making it six days since she's been missing. I'm not sure which scenario was worst; being found in the streets, weak from cold and starvation, or being at the mercy of Andriana Ivanov and her sadistic husband.
Not to mention CJ who was probably having the time of her life torturing Adella for all the times she insulted her in Colombia.
"Where's my baby? There she is!" Sabrina said as she removed the blanket from Gia's face, only to cover it and do it once more. "Where's my baby? There she is!"
I watched Sabrina play with Gia and despite my despondent mood I smiled to myself. It always warmed my heart to see my brother and sister-in-law be so loving and affectionate towards their daughter, to watch as they took turns feeding, bathing and dressing her.
They lost out on being parents the first time Sabrina got pregnant, and with Gia's arrival they got a second chance. They were one of the lucky ones. Most couples went half their lives without having a baby. It may be due to a genetic disorder or abnormality in one or both partners, faulty gametes or even endometriosis. Sad, really.
I was immensely grateful Damen and Sabrina didn't fall into that category, even more so that my niece was healthy as can be. Hopefully a few years down the road they'll be blessed with yet another child to call their own. Or two, God willing.
"After breakfast Felix and I will head down to the warehouses to check on things," Bryce told his father. "Some of the men have been slacking off lately, gambling on the job too."
"They must think they're in the comfort of their own living rooms," Damen muttered. "They need to be strictly disciplined so they won't make such mistakes in the future. Or pay with their lives."
"Damen is right," Dad agreed. "Perhaps we need to go back to the days when my father was the Don of the Sangue Mafia. This younger generation is far more arrogant and bold. Drastic measures need to be put in place to keep them in line."
Just then Valentino's phone started ringing. Wiping his fingers on a napkin he picked it up to answer. "Yes Callan? You did? Where?"
I gasped and got off my chair. "They found her? Is she okay?"
Valentino held up a finger as a sign to stay silent as he listened to Callan on the other end. After about a minute his face fell. "Are you sure? Did you check her pulse? Fuck. Okay. Stay with her and I'll come down there with Damen in a few minutes."
Hanging up the phone Valentino turned to me, a sad look in his eyes. "Jasmine...they found Adella. Rather her body. She was lying on the floor of an abandoned warehouse just off Williamsburg. Sweetheart she's... dead."
Sharp exhales arose from the table as the news sank in. Choking back tears my mother got up and left the room and Sabrina began to sob in her seat while Damen sought to comfort her. Annalise hugged Dario while her face was buried in his jacket and Riley shook her head sadly while tears pooled in her eyes.
Fighting back my own tears I looked up at my husband. "I want to see her. Could you take me?"
He hesitated. "Darling I don't think that's such a good idea-"
"I don't care Valentino! I need to see for myself. I refuse to believe Adella is really dead. She wouldn't leave me, she couldn't."
