The next morning Valentino and I got up earlier than usual and started getting ready. After showering and brushing our teeth we dressed in casual clothes that were suitable for cold weather. Putting my hair in one I applied mascara, eyeshadow and lipgloss, grabbed my purse and exited the room with my husband.
It being five in the morning the mansion was quiet with not a soul around. Entering the kitchen I poured two bowls of Cheerios and we sat at the kitchen table to eat. When we finished I rinsed out our bowls and dried my hands on a paper towel. Quietly making our way to the garage we climbed on our motorcycles and picked up our helmets.
"Stay close to me, okay? Don't forget to keep your front wheel straight and watch out for any cars," Valentino instructed.
I nodded to show I understood and we strapped our helmets on. Revving the handles a couple of times we drove out of the garage, down the slope and through the gates.
We drove through downtown Brooklyn, weaving our way through cars while keeping a safe distance from each other. The roads were slightly slippery due to last night's snowfall but thanks to the motorcycle lessons Val gave me over the holidays I was able to manoeuvre my bike with ease.
After sometime we arrived at our destination: Electric Lotus Tattoo on 692 Fulton Street. It was one of the best tattoo parlors in Brooklyn, possibly New York. They specialized in unique, custom made tattoos, and the artists were talented, renowned and skilled in their craft.
Parking at the side of the shop we got off our bikes and removed our helmets. We walked hand-in-hand to the entrance of the shop and Valentino pushed open the door. The shop was large and spacious with black and white checkered flooring, recessed lighting and a boxed ceiling.
Photos of various tattoos and designs lined the cream painted walls and costly equipment was neatly arranged on a long metal table. A tall, muscled man with cropped black hair and dark brown eyes was standing behind the polished countertops, looking through some pictures. When the bell above the door rang he glanced up and his face lit up when he saw Valentino's face.
"Valentino, it's so good to see you," he said enthusiastically as he walked around the counter to shake his hand.
"Hello Rowan. Everything okay with you?" Valentino asked as the door closed behind us.
"The Mrs is happy, my pockets are full and business is booming." Then he glanced at me and his smile widened. "I see you've brought a lady friend. A pretty one at that."
"This is Jasmine. She's my wife," Valentino introduced. "Tesoro this is Rowan Connor, the current owner of Electric Lotus. His family opened this shop in 1993 and have been in business for over twenty years."
"It's very nice to meet you," I said politely.
"Likewise," he nodded and returned his gaze to Valentino. "So what can I do for you Boss?"
"My wife would like to get a tattoo. Two in fact. Are you free?"
"For you, always. If it weren't for your generosity this place would cease to be. You cleared my family's debts, allowing us to keep our doors open. I'll always be grateful to you for that."
I smiled. "That sounds like my Val."
He chuckled and kissed me on my head before nodding to the black swivel chair. "Have a seat baby, and show Rowan the tattoos you want and where."
Sitting down I took out my phone and showed him the images. "I'd like this on my left shoulder blade and this on my chest please, both in capital letters." I glanced lovingly at my husband. "I want everyone to look at it and see exactly who owns me. Who owns my heart, my body, my soul."
Valentino smirked and took a seat on a second chair. "We're making a statement with this Rowan. Don't disappoint me."
"I wouldn't dream of it," Rowan chuckled and went behind the counter, bringing out ink, needles, the tattoo gun and sanitisation products.
