"So, who will I be meeting when we arrive in New York?" Adella asked as she plopped down in the seat next to me.
"For starters there's Valentino's uncle, his cousins and a few close friends of ours," I told her. "Then there are my friends from school, Evelyn and Collette Beaumont. They're sisters but they are polar opposites. Evelyn is bubbly, optimistic and a bit of a chatterbox. Collette on the other hand is a bit more serious and down-to-earth. I think you'll really like them."
Adella smiled and accepted the soda Damen offered her. With his own soda in hand he sat next to Sabrina and let out a heavy sigh. "Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my time in Colombia but I'm glad to be going home. I missed not having to look under the bed and search our room every night. Now I can sleep with ease."
I knew what he meant. In the beginning of freshman year it took a while for me to get used to sleeping away from home. I missed my family and I missed my old bed. As the months went by I started getting used to it. Now after spending a week in Colombia I started missing my bed in New York. But now we were going back and I couldn't be happier.
Hours later the jet arrived at Teterboro Airport. Unbuckling our seatbelts we got up and walked off the plane while the flight attendants brought our luggage out. Moments later Theodore flew down in his chopper and got out with Andrès.
"Damn it's cold," Adella shivered as she clutched her coat closer.
"I know. I'll never forget my first experience with the cold," I giggled. "I slipped on the pavement twice, I got a nose bleed and my fingers were blue for hours. I had to drink two cups of steaming hot tea and wrap myself in four blankets to warm up. But then I got accustomed to it. You will too."
"Who's coming to pick us up Tino?" Damen inquired.
"I called Uncle Enzo on the plane and told him we were coming. He said he'll send some cars to get us," Valentino replied. "They should be here any minute now."
"Well guys I'm gonna take off now Theodore said as he clasped his hands in front of him.
"No problem Theodore. Thanks for everything," Valentino said, giving his best friend a hug.
"Don't mention it, I really enjoyed myself." Then he turned to me and gave me a kiss on my cheek. "Take care Jas."
"Adiós Theo, que tengas un buen viaje a casa," I returned with a hug of my own.
(Bye Theo, have a safe journey home)
With his bags packed in the trunk the driver opened the backseat and Theodore got in, waving to us through the open window.
Five minutes after Theo left eight black SUVs pulled up to the plane. The guards assisted the drivers in depositing the suitcases into the trunks, being careful not to jerk them around too much. When the trunks were loaded the drivers shut the doors and pulled away from the airport.
In less than an hour we arrived at the mansion. One by one the cars drove up the slope and parked in the garage. The drivers opened the doors and everyone slid out. Looping my arm through Valentino's we left the garage and entered the mansion.
Ria was just putting dinner on the table and when she saw us come in she smiled and made her way over. "Welcome home Don, Mrs Guerrero. I trust you've had a relaxing trip?"
"Hello Ria," I greeted with a smile. "And yes we had a wonderful time in Colombia. Did you have a nice week?"
"I did, thank you."
"That's good to hear. Where is everyone else?"
"They should be down any minute now."
Just as she said this we heard voices followed by the sound of footfalls on the stairs. The first to appear was Enzo, then Riley and her brothers, then Dario, Annalise and the kids. The moment our eyes met there was an immediate ruckus as we rushed to embrace one another, exchanging hugs, kisses and enthusiastic greetings.
