KiaSal Drabble 33: 'Forgotten Memories 1.8' Best Friends

Both Susannah Manatt and Sal Apocalypse were now twelve, and as the best products of the Shicksal Academy: Grassroots training, they were already ready to be put into service. However, there was still a matter of graduation before that.#

"Alvitr," Sal brought a bag of sour candies as he sat on the chair adjacent to her. "Has Susannah been avoiding me?"

Alvitr, who until now had been sitting quietly by the window, gave him an amused stare. "You only noticed it now?"

"I have been busy too." Sal sighed. "But no. Ever since last month, she has been well, how should I put this, distant."

Pulling out the chair, she put her legs over the table as she pulled out the orange-flavoured candy from the bag. "Gift for her?"

"Yeah."

"She will love it."

"If she talks to me, that is."

"She will." She sounded unsure as she swallowed the candy whole. "Eventually."

"I don't think I have that kind of time." He gazed at his black uniform, emblazoned with a special insignia. "I have already been assigned to a squadron."

"We are all aware." She waved her hand. "People love talking about the son of the Overseer all the time. Plus, didn't you recently defeat a void Honkai beast?"

He shrugged. "Honkai beasts are easy to slay..." His fingers tapped on the table. "Humans aren't. But it seems the overseer is hellbent on sending me to the front lines."

"Velesflege?" She inquired.

"The one and only." He gave her an optimistic smile, but even she could tell the fear he was hiding behind it.

"You really don't have to pretend."

"It seems to you like that?"

"Somewhat."

"What kind of vague answer is that?" He gave her a grin. "But don't worry, my squadron is great, I already have had a few missions with them and the best part I get to pilot Mecha."

"What's with you boys and giant robots?" She laughed.

"Don't laugh at our dreams!" He defended in a dramatic gesture. "It's a good one. At least I can now become a Gundam protagonist."

"What?" Alvitr gave her a confused look.

"Don't worry, we aren't getting an anime adaptation anyway."

"Okay...?"

"Anyways, that's it for me." He pointed towards a single blonde ahoge strand peeking from the classroom door. "I think the person in question has been eavesdropping on us for a while."
