Susannah: Alvitr, I can't find it!

Alvitr: What is it?

Susannah: My bear headband! If I don't wear it, I can't win the competition.

Alvitr: Susannah, you already look pretty enough without that headband. (She tried to calm her friend down.) Plus, look at you, (She pointed towards her golden-white-pink dress. It had a base white colour, with a peacock embroidery in gold, the sleeves were open and lined over her arms, she was also wearing her anklets and bangles, as a representation of her home. You look gorgeous.

Susannah: (She had tears in her eyes) But I can't win like this.

Alvitr: There you go again. I just told you-

"You don't understand Alvitr!" Susannah buried her face in her palm. "That's my good luck charm. And also the first gift I got from Sal" Her voice was muffled as she tried to stop herself from crying. She knew that it was destroying her carefully put make up but still she couldn't believe she made such a blunder.

"I can't participate like this, Alvitr." Susannah hiccuped. "I just can't."

"Susannah..." Alvitr was at a loss of words. "You know right you are still you without that charm."

"No, I am not."

"Why are you being so stubborn?"

"Because I can't win like this! I don't want him to see me without the band!"

"Oh my God!" Alvitr was annoyed now. "You know what, great, cry all you want to."

With that Alvitr stormed off the room. She was really angry at her friend for being like this, though she knew she could have kept a level head, at that moment she just couldn't.

Two hours later:

"I heard from Alvitr." Sal quietly walked into her form room. He was dressed in black-white tuxedo and had a boquet of lilies in his arm. "She said you had lost all confidence because of some good-luck charm?"

Susannah had not left the dressing room ever since Alvitr stormed off, she sat their with her makeup stained over her face as she hid behind her transparent veil.

"Go away..." She said in a muffled whisper. She was annoyed.

"That's a first." Sal placed the bouquet next to her and leaned towards her resting head. "Or second? Didn't you say the same thing when we first met?"

"You were annoying back then." She weakly replied.

"Is that so?" He chuckled.

"Yes."

"Then what about now?"

"Still annoying." She peeked at him, her amber eyes twinkling with a glint of mischief. "But bearable."

"Hehe, I am honoured to hear that." He went down on his knees as he stretched out his right arm. "So, for this bearable, annoying best friend of yours, would the great Susannah Manatt stop whining and get to the stage where no one can beat her?"

Susannah gave him a weak smile. She knew he was trying to cheer her up but still she had made a blunder, and she didn't want for him to see him without the band. She didn't care if she didn't win, what mattered was that she wore that when she went out there.

"I can't."

"Because you don't have the charm?"

She nodded.

"That's a problem, then." He tilted his head deep in thought. "What shall we do now?"

"Nothing, Sal, it's gone."

"Non non." He gave her a cheeky smile. "Did you forget, great Susannah, your best friend has a habit of finding things you lose?"

"You can't possibly find it, when even I don't remember where I lost it, Sal."

"You have always been an airhead, Scramble Brains, so don't worry, I will find it."

"But-"

"No buts." He cut her off. "You are going to the centre stage with the most gorgeous dress ever, while I find your good luck charm. Deal?"

She was hesitant, but in front of his conviction-filled eyes, she couldn't say no. "Deal."

"Good now, Audrey, Alvitr." He clapped his hand, as the friend who stormed off and a blonde-haired lady five years older than them entered the room. "I leave her to you guys."

"Sure, wonder rookie." The blonde girl had him at a high level, meanwhile, Alvitr nodded.

"Aight," He went to Susannah one last time. "So, Scramble Brains, your best friend is about to scorch this academy to find your headband. So promise me you will believe in him and in yourself."

Susannah gave him a light nod.

"Say it."

"But-"

"No buts, Scramble Brains."

"I will believe in myself, idiot." She said it with a grumble.

"Good. I will trust your words. Now go break a leg." He stood up and started walking towards the exit. "After all, there is no way someone as gorgeous as you will be defeated because you didn't have a headband."
