"Kiana..." Sal started as his voice drifted away. He was eating the shaved ice dessert that the shopkeeper Grandma had gifted him.

"Don't talk while you are eating, dork." She smiled as she wiped away syrup from his lips. "I don't want you spoiling your shirt."

"Rich coming from you, " Sal grinned and pointed at the red mark over her white top.

"This is fine," She shrugged. "But you, on the other hand, are wearing my favourite shirt.

Henceforth, you don't get to spoil it."

"Didn't peg you to be the one to like blue." Sal took another bite, this time careful to not let anything fall down in his sky-blue shirt.

"I am not a fan of it," Kiana gazed at the twilight sky. "But it looks good on you. And I love what matches you."

Sal's eyes widened as he nibbled on the spoon. His gaze was on her as the breeze sailed past her, making her white hair flow with it.

Kiana giggled at his expression. Her petite arm was raised up as she placed a finger over her cheeks.

"Why do you look like a lost puppy..." She wiped a tear. "Though I can't deny that's your most natural behaviour."

Sal was still silent. He didn't have any witty reply, not today. Her ethereal presence and the compassionate embrace had gotten to him.

"Cat got your tongue?" Kiana waved her hand over his lost gaze.

"Kiana, I am never leaving your side." Sal blurted out. It wasn't supposed to come out that way, but at that moment, it didn't matter. "I won't go to Schiksal ever."

Kiana gave him a knowing smile. She had a tinge of blush over her cheeks, but more than that, she was at peace. "I know."

"Even if you push me, I will keep following you."

"I know...Really, I do, Sal." Kiana cast her gaze back at the sky; it was now dark. Night was almost upon them. "If I leave it up to you, I am sure you would follow me to the end of the universe..." She stopped only to admit her own truth. "Not that I won't, but I don't think this is good for either of us."

"What do you mean?" He raised his eyebrows.

"When I asked you to leave, it was mostly impulse, and I apologise for it... But you see, Sal, you and I...we both are individuals too. We have been with each other for over three years now...and the last six months..." She sighed, remembering all the times she spent with him in the Philippines and then in Arc City. "We have been attached...so much so that it's scary for me to even imagine a future where I don't have you by my side..."

"What's wrong with that?" He gave her the most innocent look he had. Kiana could feel her heart melt as she held onto her jacket. It took everything in her to not keep him tight and take him back. But she needed to be resilient, for herself and their relationship.

"Everything Sal...you...us. I don't think this is healthy... I can't chain you to me...just because of my own selfishness." Kiana was speaking slowly, carefully choosing her words. She wanted to be earnest today, for him and for herself. This was important; he was important. "And that's why I think we should take some time away from each other. For ourselves..."

"You have never been a great liar, you know that, dumbo," Sal replied in a gentle tone. He kept his shaven-ice bowl below and pulled the girl into an embrace. She didn't resist. She wanted it... No, needed it.

"I am not lying, not this time." She murmured with her face buried over his chest.

"I know...but about leaving each other, I don't think that's what you want." He gave her a knowing smile.

"Maybe so..." She leaned upwards. "But do we have any other choice. As long as I am around, I will naturally gravitate to your side. Because that is the most natural for me."

"Have you ever wondered that I might be the same?"

"Huh?" asked Kiana in a surprised tone.

"That look tells me all." He giggled.

"No, I mean, why? I have always been the one relying on you."

"It goes both ways, Kiana." Sal gave her a head pat. "For you, I was someone who was supporting you, and for me, you were someone who supported me. In a sense..." He held his chin deep in thought. "It might be a bit cringe... But you were the sun to my moon. And that's why feeling is mutual. And as for being around each other... I think we can work that out in the sessions. I am sure Tayrah would love to help us set up some boundaries?"

"Oh."

"Yeah...we don't have to be rash and act on impulse." Sal gave her a smile. "All we need to do is be honest and well...communicate."

"Rich coming from you." She gave him a jab as she tightened her grip on him. The moment from the last few weeks came back, and this time, instead of sadness, she was filled with a playful rage.

"I apologise..." He raised his hands in surrender. "This time it was all me."

"Hmph."

"You know that only makes you cuter."

"And that won't let you off the hook this time, mister."

"I am sorry..." He said he was uncertain.

"Why do you sound uncertain?" She raised her eyebrows accusingly.

"Susannah asked me out." He replied, not wanting to play around. She was vital to him, and he wanted to communicate with her clearly.

She nodded, gesturing him to continue.

"And I was...confused. I mean, I was delighted to get confessed by her, it was my first confession..." He could feel her grip tightening with every word he said, but still, there was an understanding smile on her face. "But I didn't know how to reply to her. She is a good friend... no, she is like family, and I have always loved her...but it was never the romantic type. And that is why it scared me even more...that if I reject her, without being thoughtful about it, I might lose her forever."

"But you can't lead her on forever..." She was giving him a head pat now. "Though for being such a thoughtful friend to her, you deserve a lot of praise and a head pat."

"Am I a child to you?" He retorted playfully.

"You say that, but look at you snuggling to me like a puppy..." She giggled.

"Says the cat who won't stop clinging to me.

"Felines are very clingy when they want to be."

"And canines are always cuddly." He smiled.

"But I think I will give her my reply."She gave him a nod. "That would be for the best, for you and for her."

"For us too."

"Us?"

"You didn't like the thought of me leaving your side..." He placed his head over hers. "After this, you don't have to...not that I am saying that I won't entertain romantic interest in future...but until then, I am yours."

"Haha, you say it as if I own you."

"I am sure you would love that."

"In your dreams."

"Sure."
