Reflection: Battle of the Bands

The third chapter in Rainbow Rocks, everybody! This is taking a while to finish, I know but S5 will soon be here!

It was now on the day of the finals, the Rainbooms assembled there, alongside Malibu who was instructed by Adagio under her control to keep his original attitude as much as possible, his face a slightly blank look.

Sunset smiled at them all. "This is it! Last round and you're in the finals! Unless you think the counter spell is ready to be played now." She turned over to Twilight who froze up, looking away.

Malibu blinked slowly, staring emotionlessly at Twilight as Adagio's voice whispered softly in his mind. "She doubts herself. And you can help the band's failure by... disrupting a couple things. Do it for me, your dear mistress..."

It made the gargoyle/alicorn human nod like a puppet, a light dazed grin appearing as Applejack put a hand on Twilight's shoulder. "Don't worry, Twilight. Finals aren't until tonight. We'll get in a little more practice before we're supposed to hit the stage. We won't let you down!"

The rest of the gang nodded, even Fluttershy. Twilight's head lowered further. "You won't let me down..."

Fluttershy, timid as ever, held up her songbook, a shy smile on her face. "Um, I was wondering, we haven't played any of my songs yet, and..."

Rainbow however did a light punch on her arm. "It's the semifinals. We gotta do 'Awesome as I Wanna Be!"

That made Fluttershy pout silently. "Don't know why I even asked..."

Meanwhile, Malibu had snuck away under the guidance of Adagio, heading to the instruments, unaware that Sunset had noticed him leave but shrugged it off thinking he had to use the restrooms. Malibu felt a little smirk appearing, eyeing Rainbow Dash's guitar, loosening one of the strings just a tad which will snap right before her song would end while Trixie and her band.

Next, he adjusted the drums in which one of them would fall over while Pinkie used her drum sticks on it, finishing with his eyes glowing green just a little, smirking, walking off to find his mistress.

She was standing there, arms crossed smugly as Adagio looked pleased with his efforts. "I did what you wished, mistress." Malibu mumbled, woozy from the spell. Adagio chuckled softly, stroking his cheek almost fondly. "That's my sweet little pet. You're doing so well. And when we take over this world and Equestria, you can have anything you want." She crooned, Malibu's heart skipping a beat from the softness of her voice. "And you won't mind telling me every little thing about the world you came from, hmm?" Adagio purred, Malibu groaning from the heat growing in his cheeks, nodding eagerly.

Meanwhile Trixie's band had finished singing 'Tricks Up My Sleeve' as her group bowed, Celestia clapping and laughing. "Fantastic!" She cheered with Sunset scoffing, rolling her eyes while wondering again why Malibu wasn't with his friends.

Trixie came along, grinning and crossing her arms. "Hmph. You're never gonna top that performance, 'Rain-goons'. You shouldn't be allowed to when you have such a big advantage over the rest of us!" She mocked.

Rainbow Dash smirked, looking overconfident. "My superior guitar playing and off-the-charts awesome singing voice?" She asked, making Trixie roll her eyes. "Don't be ridiculous, I mean her, and that loser prince."

Sunset frowned from the insult. "If you were really all that, Rainbow Dash. You wouldn't have needed to bring in some magical ringers to have half a chance. Everyone's talking about it." Trixie claimed, studying her fingernails.

Rainbow Dash also rolled her eyes. "Ha! Puh-leeze! I could win this thing as a solo act and everybody knows it!" It made the rest of the Humane 7 stare in disbelief from her words, Applejack watching  her in disapproval.
