Long silences

(Asta's POV)

My blade clattered through this snail guy's slimy spell with ease. He may be coating Kiten in slime, but that's no match for my magic erasing powers!

I was going in for another swing when I heard a pained yell. That in and of itself was horrific-sounding enough, but the silence after was worse.

I dodge another attack from slime guy over here before looking in the direction of the yell.  Between the village houses, a figure emerges into the skies. Translucent red wings on full display. That's Y/N's power, isn't it? Gosh, they're so cool!

Though I don't recall their powers being so extravagant, Y/N's wings are usually smaller.

Actually, is that blood on their hands?

"Y/N! Are you ok?!" I shout out loudly, cupping my free hand on my cheek to amplify the sound.

Y/N turns their head to me swiftly, a coldness I'd never seen before present on their usually bored face. It almost makes me shiver, really.

Without a word, they hold out their hand, about towards... towards slime guy.

I don't even have time to react as his eyes bulge out, just like the rest of his slime-covered body. The strong sorcerer blows into tiny bits of flesh until all that remains standing is a mock-up of his form in translucent red.

Y/N...

"Y/N...." I breathe out my very thoughts.

They... blew a Diamond Kingdom sorcerer up from the inside out.

I dare to take a look at their face. Not a single twitch or change had appeared since they'd arrived. Looking down coldly at the bloody mess on the street. Their airborne body block out the sun's attempt to cast light on the situation.

Even though their wings further disturb the scene, the red light cast from their conjured-up wings makes it seem even more gory.

It seems as if they wish to say something to me. But they decide against it. Turning away from me without a single word and speeding off at speeds I haven't even seen Yuno go at.

If I had blinked, I would've missed it.

Frantic spell-fire was heard just seconds later, screams echoing throughout Kiten.

I could only watch as Diamond Kingdom soldiers fell off their brooms, some even so torn up that there was little left to fall.

'Had Y/N been hiding this all this time?'

It was scary to think about. That they'd just lie low this whole time. That this is what they were really capable of.

I'd be no one to stop it. I've long realised Y/N doesn't use ordinary magic.

The screams continued on, Y/N's form rising higher and higher into the sky. They didn't even have to move; every spell was blocked. Every shield was conjured with such speed that it was almost inhuman.

A rookie shouldn't be able to do that.

And I was right. Spotting Captain Yami on a different rooftop, staring up at the bloody spectacle with shock I'd never seen before.
