Salem had only had the relic of knowledge once and she used that one chance properly. The gods never would have told her but they didn't matter anymore they were gone. At least she had assumed so until Jinn revealed to her that there was to be a girl centuries to come that would hold the god of darkness in her soul.

The revelation that all it would take to kill her was a little girl shattered the illusion that she was invincible. And then there was Ozma trying to leave and take her children with him. It was in that moment, finding him ushering her daughters out the door of their home, that she decided he had to die. She mourned the loss of the man she had loved so deeply and the loss of her babies and fled to the very place that caused her mix of death and immortality.

She made herself queen of the Grimm and took the place the god of darkness had left behind. She spent centuries creating her own kingdom and fighting against every iteration of her husband and the children he chose to fight with him. Until one day she felt the presence of a Grimm that was never hers. A light in the very soul of darkness.

She sent a Wyvern to the forest of Haven and found a girl not much older than twelve with eyes as red as hers hiding out there. She was certain this was the prophecy. No matter, she'd die now before she could have trained to carry out the task.

But the girl simply activated her Aura and put her hands on the ground creating a glyph around her. The Wyvern went to attack her but as soon as it touched the glyph it calmed and came to her side, markings now lavender like her Aura had been.

No...it couldn't be possible she was twelve, how could she defeat a Wyvern with no training?

Then Salem noticed she hadn't defeated the wyvern; it hadn't died; it was just slipping from her control and into the girl's. She had tamed the damned thing.

That was the first time in decades nearing a full century that the windows in her throne room shattered. She couldn't kill her with a Grimm; she'd have to be killed by a human. Salem deigned to find workers who would be more than willing to take care of this task for her and get the relics without her having to use her own hands.

Cinder was the first to ask the reason behind her hatred of the Grimm Huntress. She never brought the subject up again.

After the Fall of Beacon and Cinder's becoming the Fall Maiden, Salem was sure the girl had finally died, and by her friend's own hand. Until she felt her before Lionheart truly showed his cowardice. It was then she began thinking.

She may be the same as Salem. Cursed to live until the gods deem it time for her death.

If she could only live then she would live in misery.

Just like Salem.
