"Whitley, just do what I do."

"It's hard."

Apollo sighed.

That night, he and Whitley were in the backyard/field the family owned trying to get Whitley to properly use his Semblance again. He had only unlocked it because of anger but now that Apollo was fine, he was having trouble using it again.

"How do you use your Semblance?" Whitley asked.

Apollo paused, then sat down on the grass and patted the ground next to him. "Sit." Whitley sighed, probably annoyed that he was in danger of getting grass on his pants, but sat regardless. "I draw my Semblance from my emotions. Good and bad."

"I rarely see you with bad emotions," Whitley said.

"Well I still have 'em, just like everyone." Apollo shrugged. "What I need to use it is a balance. If I'm too upset, it's weak, but if I'm too hyped, it's blinding."

"Blinding?"

"Oh. Right." He smiled awkwardly. "I never told you, did I?"

"Told me what?"

"I control light, not objects." He held his hand out and the lights around them went off and a ball of light in his hand formed. He shaped it into a spear like Thea's. "It's sort of weak but the more light I have the more I can control."

Whitley stared at the spear until Apollo returned it to the floating lights. "That's why you could lift the chandelier... it's practically made of light."

"Yep," Apollo laughed. "But, uhh, I'm stronger in the day. I have more powering me, I guess. Now, the Schnees can use their Semblance at any time so let's try it."

They stood again and Apollo kissed his forehead. "I–"

A glyph appeared and pushed the fountain a few yards away.

"–believe in you," Apollo finished. Whitley covered his mouth as they both stared at the fountain. "How did you..."

"I am so sorry!" Whitley's face was red behind his hand. Apollo laughed and he looked back at him. "What?"

"I think your Semblance works with strong emotions."

"Oh you think you can just bring strong emotions out of me?" Whitley scoffed.

Apollo pointed to his face which still didn't lose its color. "If your face is anything to go by I'd say so."

"Oh gods... okay, hypothetically, if that were true, how am I supposed to use that?"

"You think I'm just happy in the middle of a fight with Esteban? Or even that angry? You have to tap into it. Think about when you felt a strong emotion. Try to move that back."

Whitley turned to him then back to the fountain. He wouldn't admit it, not now or anytime in the near future (if ever) but his first thought was Apollo. Apollo seeking him out, Apollo smiling and jumping on him as soon as he saw him, Apollo kissing him goodbye, goodnight, good morning on the off chance he slept over.

Apollo was who made him happy. Every time.

He held his hands out and a glyph appeared. It slowly pulled the fountain closer but it faded before it could fully be put back in place. He fell to one knee, panting as all the energy was drained.

Apollo knelt next to him with a bright smile. "You did amazing!"

"I failed."

"Your mission was to use your Semblance to move it back. You never needed to put it back the way it was."

Whitley couldn't help himself when he chuckled and looked at his friend. "You're a real mystery star boy."

"I'll take that as a compliment."

"It was. Don't worry about that." Whitley sighed and shakily made his way back to his feet. "Can you... help me back to the house?"

"Of course, my prince." Apollo's smile somehow got warmer as he wrapped one of his arms around Whitley's waist and draped Whitley's arm over his shoulder, helping him wobble back into the manor up to his room where he had been staying. He set him down on the bed. "Rest now, you've earned it."

"What about you?" Whitley muttered.

"Don't worry, I've got plenty of energy left." And it was true. As Whitley fell asleep, he moved to the window and gathered the energy from their floating lights to place the fountain back to normal.

They could do it again another day. For now, he would work on a project he had started since the night of the attack and Whitley could rest with the pride of his new abilities.

And the pink still at the tips of his ears.
