Wanting to be loved (Zuko)

The kid introduces himself as Lee, I'm glad I didn't use that name for Zuko. He states that Zuko isn't from here because he can't use the hammer. 'No we are not from here' I tell him 'Where are you from?' 'I'm from the South Pole and Kan he is from another part of the world' 'Where are you going?' 'We don't know, just somewhere' that's the truth.

Lee's father says he has to stop asking us personal questions. 'So how did you get your scar?' Lee asks nonchalant and Zuko hits himself on his thumb. Now I don't give an answer. Lee's father now says a man's past is his business and he goes on with his work.

Lee's mother called us that supper was ready. We went inside the house and sat at the table. 'I hope this is not too much trouble for you' I say to her. 'No, no of course not. Not after you helped Lee stay out of trouble. I told him many times he must not joke with the soldiers' and she gives Lee a sharp look. 'Well kids will be kids. Back at home I used to help watch the children and when you look away a second they are in trouble already' I smiled at her.

'Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking' 'No it doesn't matter. I'm from the South Pole' I answer her question. Then we eat in silence. When we are ready Zuko asks for the bandages and Lee and his father go out. She gives them to him and he nods at me. I sigh and sit with my back to him and pull my shirt up so he can reach it.

Lee's mother asks if she can help and when she sees my back she lets out a little scream and drops the bowl she is holding and it falls to the ground but I catch it using waterbending. Lee's father and Lee run in to see what is going on. Then they're eyes fall on my back.

'Zuko can you begin?' I ask and he takes of the old bandages and now my scar is fully insight. 'What happened to you?' I hear Lee's mother ask in tears. 'We had a run in with the Fire Nation' I say. 'The Fire Nation destroys everything!' I hear Lee's father say with anger and I move my hand back to squeeze in Zuko's knee as I hear him breath harder. He continuous to put on the bandages. 'Don't you need anything else? Is this really enough?' she asks. 'This is just fine. It is as an extra protection so the scar can heal' I explain.

At night Zuko and I go to the barn were we can sleep. 'These people are so curious' Zuko said annoyed. 'That's not so odd seeing two teenagers both with burn scars' I say as I lay down in the hay. He comes over and leans over me and then kisses me. I softly push him away 'I don't think this is a good idea. Maybe one of them will walk in' I say laughing. He laughs to and then lays down beside me and we get comfortable.

In the middle of the night I hear someone come in and take Zuko's swords then leaves. I feel Zuko getting up 'It was the little one' I yawn. He goes outside and I stand up to and go outside. I see him teach Lee how to use the swords. It was nice seeing him with a kid. Then they come back. 'So you're a real swordsman now' I say to Lee and place my hand on Zuko's arm.

'It's a shame we can't stay and teach you' I say to him. 'Are you guys like a couple or something?' Lee asks with a dirty face. I laugh 'No we are not' Zuko says annoyed. 'You should go inside and to bed' I say to Lee and push him to the house. When he is inside Zuko and I walk into the barn. 'You can always make a living out of teaching' I say to Zuko and lay down.

The next morning Zuko and I get ready to leave 'It's a shame we can't stay longer. These people are so nice' I sigh 'That's exactly why we can't stay' Zuko said and I know it's true. If they find Zuko here this family is in big trouble. When we are ready we walk outside and get the ostrichhorse ready.

Lee's mother gives us some food for on the road and when we are ready to leave some earth kingdom soldiers come. They tell that Lee's brother has been captured, these bastards just want to see them suffering by telling them what they heard. Zuko stands in front of the man so he can't come to the family.

Then they leave. Lee asks if we can stay because his father is leaving to find his oldest son. 'I wish we could stay longer but it's better if we leave. You will be a big boy and look after your mother and help her when she needs you' I say to him and give him a hug before I jump on the ostrich horse. Zuko gives Lee the knife he always carries with him and let him read the inscription: never give up without a fight. Then we really take off and I look back for the last time.
