When I woke up, Luke was gone.
"Luke?" I questioned, waking up to a bedside that look like it was untouched. Like no one ever laid in it, that Luke was never there.
I rapidly jumped out of bed, maybe Luke was talking to Silvia downstairs.
But to my dismay, Luke was not there, only Silvia who was preparing breakfast.
"Hey Cay, Lea went to go get some bagels from the bakery just right now and I'm preparing your guys' favorites." Silvia smile, gesturing that hot water was ready for tea.
I grabbed three cups and poured two with hot water, the other was for Lea whenever she returned. I carefully ripped open a tea bag for each of our cups.
"Hey Silvia?" I asked, Luke still on my mind.
"Yes?"
"Where's Luke? Did he go with Lea or something?" I stirred my tea with a few cubes of sugar.
"Honey, who is Luke?" Silvia asked back, turning in the stove.
I stopped stirring my tea.
"Lu-Luke Hemmings. The really tall boy, blue eyes, lip piercing?" I tried to describe him, but my insides were shaking.
"Cayden, I'm sorry hun but I have no idea who you are talking about." Silvia continued cutting fruit into a bowl.
"The boy I went to prom with." I pushed on, desperate for her to remember.
"Cay, you went to prom with that boy Jared from your science class." Silvia stopped cutting and turned toward me, "Are you feeling okay honey?"
"I-I" I pursed my lips, not sure what to say.
The door open as I hear heels click on the wooden floor.
"Man, that line in the bakery was so long!" Lea dropped the brown bag on the counter. "Hey Cay." She lightly hugged me.
"Hey Lea?" She turned to me, grabbing a few bagels for all of us, "Yeah girl?"
"D-do you know Luke Hemmings?" I breathed out, afraid to hear her answer.
My worse fears were meet when she tilted her head to the side, "Who is that?"
My heart broke in two and all I could get out was a few words, "No-no one."
I shook my head in disbelief, this wasn't happening, this couldn't be happening.
"I'm going to g-go get ready. I'll be back in a few." I whispered and scurried away to my room. I locked the door behind me and yanked open a drawer where I kept all my recent pictures.
Through the hundreds I have taken, I couldn't find one with Luke, not a single one. I panicked.
I snatched my phone off my nightstand, quickly typed in my password and scrolled through my albums.
No Luke.
Even my background was changed, instead of the picture we took at Disneyland it was just a forest.
I did a double take and silently lead out a small prayer.
The forest, the spot where we first meet, it was my only chance.
Not caring about my pajama I quickly put on my boots and grabbed my phone.
"Where are you going? Graduation is
in three hours!" Lea called out to me when I yelled, "I'll be back, I need to go on a walk!"
I followed the familiar pathway toward our secret spot. The forest seemed to be glowing and healthy compared to the bitter frost it was left in during the winter.
