Standing outside the door, my stomach began to drop and not in the good way.

"She's going to have my head." I informed Luke, who was to my dismay, calm. She of course, meaning my perfectionist of a stepmother who never tolerated any form of error. That error of course meaning me.

I have no idea why she holds such a high vendetta against me. But as time passed on, I realized I couldn't even fathom to have a mother and daughter like relationship with her, after all she's not even my real mom.

"You know she doesn't abhor you." He proclaimed, his voice ever so sure. But I don't believe him, he hasn't seen what agony she has truly caused me.

"Yeah and my life is all lollipops and dandelions." I snorted with blatant sarcasm, my heart promptly pumping in my chest.

"She doesn't." He stated with the same tranquil tone, that was starting to get on my nerves.

With more attitude I retorted, "And how do you know that?"

"Because I do." Luke steps up the two cinder blocks leading toward the gateway to my despair, "Now just follow my lead and don't mess it up." He rang the door bell and not a second later did the door open.

"Cayden, you ungratefu- oh. Who is this?" My aunt's opprobrium smothered into a feign kindness once she noticed I had company.

"Silvia, this is Luke. He's my um." I looked toward him for clarity to which he answered, "I'm her math tutor, it's nice to meet you Mrs. Thomson."

His charm even affected my stepmother, the most heartless woman known to existence, as she melted under his spell. "Well hello Lucas. It's a pleasure to meet you, young man. I appreciate you for tutoring Cayden, Lord knows she needs all the help she can receive."

Even in her state of tolerable, she still managed to find ways to degrade me.

"Well it would be lovely to chat with you mam. But I think it's best if I start to tutor Cayden while it's still light outside." He smiled, one that showed his whiten teeth and manners.

My step mother was absolutely pleased with him. "Go on ahead you two, I will cook up a few snacks. And Lucas you are also very welcome to stay for dinner."

"Thank you Mrs. Thomson, I will take your offer on that." Luke flashed another winning grin, one that I'm sure my step mother fell for.

She immediately chortled, ensuring my prediction, "Please call me, Silvia. Does baked chicken sound good tonight?"

We nodded in agreement and before we headed to my room, Luke being the charismatic piece of- he is, complimented Silvia on her hideous orange colored sweater which sent her into a fit of school girl giggles.

"How did you do that?" Was the first question to pop out of my mouth.

Luke had no trouble settling himself in my room as he had done the past night.

He shrugged his shoulders, "Do what?"

"What you did just there, with my step mother and her. How did you win her over like that?"

"Oh that." His upper lip tugged at his silver lip ring, "It's been a trait of mine even when I was mortal. It also helps that to able to read her mind."

I threw my bag beside my small desk and placed myself on the chair opposite to Luke whose position remained on my bed. "What else can you do?"

"As I said before, I can teleport and obviously read thoughts. I also can become invisible which only you can see me." He stared directly at me, making me slightly unease that he had access to my demons.
