"I still think that this is a bad idea." I said, looking over at my boyfriend Shawn who sat in the driver's seat. He had one hand out the window and the other on the steering wheel.
Shawn chuckled at what I had said.
"Seriously Shawn, don't take anything my Dad says to offense." I said.
Shawn grabbed the steering wheel with his hand that had been hanging out the window and grabbed my hand with the other.
"He's just protective over you." Shawn replied.

Shawn and I were currently driving to my house, also known as my parents place. Shawn insisted that my parents should get to know him a bit better. My Mom was fine with the idea while my Dad thought it was ridiculous. To him Shawn was just going to be one of the guys his daughter dated for a while, though Shawn and I's relationship had been longer then any we've ever been in before. Still, my Dad had no interest in meeting him.

If my Dad had it his way Shawn and I wouldn't be together. My Dad thought his lifestyle of being an artist was way to different for my lifestyle. My Father didn't think that I could trust him while he was away for his career, especially after hearing rumours on Tv or in the magazines. He also didn't like how Shawn had to travel a lot. He'd always make a reference to the future and how my life would look while Shawn was away. He'd be on tour while I was home taking care of the kids on my own for months until he came back. My Dad didn't think we could handle the separation. In a nutshell, he just thought I deserved better.

"I just don't want to hear what he has to say, I know his opinions about us already. I just want him to stay out of our relationship." I sighed.
Shawn knew everything my Dad thought about him, mostly from what I told him. I didn't like to tell him the things my Father thought about him but when I would cry about it Shawn would force me to tell him everything.
"Well, I want to change his opinion. I want to show him that I really care about you. I want him to trust me with you." He said, lifting my hand in his and kissing the back of it.
"Good luck." I scoffed. Shawn just smiled at me before looking back out the windshield.

Shawn parked the car in the driveway when we got to my house. I felt as if I was more nervous then he was. He looked so calm and collected and there I was, with shaking hands and nerves building up in my throat. Shawn was just about to get out of the car when I grabbed him by the arm and stopped him.
"Shawn." I mumbled, nervousness evident in my voice. Shawn looked at me concerned.

"Don't let anything he says drive you away from me." I mumbled. Shawn's eyes softened. He reached towards me, caressing the side of my face with one of his hands.
"There's nothing he could say that would make me leave you." He whispered, before pressing his lips to mine. I kissed him back with just as much intensity and passion as he gave. His kiss always settled me.

Walking into the house was nerve wracking. It was quiet, the only sound we could hear was our footsteps and cutlery clashing in the kitchen. When we walked into the kitchen, hand in hand, my eyes made contact with my Mom who stood near the island and my Dad who sat at the Kitchen table.
"Y/N, took you long enough!" My Mother laughed, wiping her hands on her apron as she approached both Shawn and me. I just chuckled, more out of nervousness, before speaking up.
"Mom, you've met Shawn before." I said, stepping to the side to let Shawn speak.
"Hello Mrs Y/L/N, it's nice to see you again." Shawn greeted, shaking hands with my Mom.
"Please," my Mom smiled, "call me Y/M/N.". Shawn just smiled as a reply.

My Mom made the eye to us to go say hi to my Dad. This was only the beginning to a very scary evening. I pulled Shawn by the hand, keeping him closely behind me. His body right against mine. I gulped before speaking up.
"Hi Dad. How are you?" I asked. He looked up at me from the book he held in his hand.
"I've been better." He replied. I just nodded for a response. I could tell that my Dad was not trying to make any eye contact with Shawn at all. I had to fix that though.
"Uh Dad, this is Shawn." I said, looking over at Shawn. He gave me a reassuring smile. My dad put his book down and pulled the glasses that he wore down the bridge of his nose.
"It's nice to meet you Sir." Shawn said, holding out his other hand. He looked at Shawn only for a split second before pushing his glasses back up to his eyes and picking up his book, leaving Shawn hanging. I pulled Shawn's hand away, already feeling a headache coming on.

"Dinner's ready!" My Mom called, starting to set things around the table. Shawn followed her to the island and stood next to her.
"What would you like me to take to the table?" He asked. I smiled at how cute he was being.
"Oh Shawn, how sweet. Would you take the mashed potatoes please?" My mom replied. Shawn nodded his head and brought the dish to the table. As my mom took a seat next to my Dad she made eyes at me, lifting her eyebrows, as if she were saying 'he's a keeper'. I just smiled and looked at my lap. Shawn took a seat beside me.

Dinner started off pretty quiet, the only sounds heard was the cutlery or our chewing. My Mom made an effort to start conversation but my Dad payed no attention and just ate. I felt a wave of sadness, disappointed at the way he was acting. How could he not want to get to know the boy his daughter loved? Just then, all of the sudden my Dad decided to speak.
