"Read em' and weep boys." Shawn said as he placed down the number of cards he had in his hands. Matt, Cameron and Nash all sighed in disbelief, for Shawn had won another round of poker once again. Sitting on Shawn's lap I laughed, as did he.
"You even gave her up for grabs and yet you still win!" Matt said as he pointed at me, shock still written on his face. Shawn collected everything that he had won on the table, and then wrapped his arms tighter around me.
"You think that I'd let you fools win with my girl up for the prize?" Shawn chuckled.
"There was no way.".

"I'm done." Nash said, getting up from his seat and leaving the room.
"Me too, I'm out." Cameron said, resting back in his chair.
"Well I have nothing else to put on the table so I guess that means I am too." Matt said, resting back in his chair as well.
I just turned my head to look at Shawn, my boyfriend of almost a year, too see a smirk on his face. He looked so content with the fact that he had won yet again. I leaned forward and pressed my lips against his.
"Please, not here," Matt muttered, "I already lost a majority of my cash, I dont want to lose my eyes too." He said resting his face in his hands. I pulled away from the kiss to chuckle. Shawn pressed his lips against mine instantly after.

"Guys!" Nash yelled, running into the living room. Shawn and I pulled away from each others' lips and looked at him.
"The Jacks just pulled up in the driveway." He said. All the boys got up from their seats, including Shawn who lifted me off of him to do so. My eyes followed him as he walked to a near by table that had a drawer. He pulled open the drawer to grab out a gun. Shawn having a firearm was something I still hadn't gotten used too. The boys were apart of a gang, so I witnessed a lot of things. They worked for a guy a bit older than each of them, he didn't come around all the time but when he did I couldn't help but feel frightened.

"Just both of the Jacks?" Matt asked, peeking out the window. The Jacks were Jack Gilinsky and Jack Johnson. They were apart of another gang, one that was more of a rival to the boys.
"What do they want now?" Cameron asked. Shawn walked over to the front door and I followed him. He turned around and looked at me. I could tell that he was thinking from the way that his eyes moved back and forth as he stared at me. I grabbed his arm and looked into his eyes. Matt, Cameron, and Nash walked out of the house to meet with Jack and Jack.
"Stay here, alright?" He asked, more like said. He wasn't actually giving me a choice. He didn't even let me nod before turning to go and open the door.

"Shawn." I called, grabbing his attention. He looked frustrated with me. I was scared every time that he had to do something for his gang, but that was his life. I never knew if he would come back alright and alive, or dead. That was my greatest fear. I stepped forward and crashed my lips on to his. He kissed back as soon as my lips made contact with his. Shawn didn't pull away right away but he couldn't stay kissing me forever, so he eventually pulled his lips back from mine.
"Be careful." I said, resting down from my toes.
"Stay here." Shawn said, before opening the door and walking out of the house. I made my way over to the window and peeked behind the curtains. The window was opened slightly so I could hear everything that was being said outside.
"What do you want?!" Shawn yelled, approaching the boys and the Jacks who stood across from them.

"Your leader gave us a job to do last week and we did it, so we're here to collect our money." Jack Gilinsky said, putting his hands in the front pockets of his dark jeans. I recalled the job that they were referring too. The Jacks' gang may have been a rival to Shawn's but the leaders had no part in that. If they needed help from another gang, whether their members got along or not, they got the help. All they had to do was bribe them with money.
"You were already paid." Shawn replied.
"Yeah, well you're short a few thousand. And we're going to need that." Jack Johnson said, taking a step forward closer to Shawn. I noticed that Cameron's hand reached towards his back pocket, ready to grab out his gun if things got out of control.

"We have no part in this. We weren't the ones who made the deal with you and your group of girls." Shawn smirked. The boys behind Shawn chuckled at the insult he had made. Jack Johnson looked as if he were ready to attack, but Jack Gilinsky held him back.
"Speaking of girls," Jack Gilinsky smirked, "We'll just take yours Mendes and forget the cash. What do you say?" He said, pointing at the window directly at me. Now it was their turn to laugh. Rage rose to Shawn's face, and then he attacked Jack Gilinsky. The boys both fell to the floor.

My heart rate increased when I saw the other Jack grab out his gun and point it at Shawn who was over top of Jack Gilinsky. Though, Cameron pointed his gun at his head letting him know that if he shot a bullet he would too. Without thinking I ran out of the house. I saw Nash trying to pull Shawn off of Jack Gilinsky but he just wouldn't get off of him. Matt noticed that I had run out of the house. He stopped me before I could run down the porch steps.
"Stay there!" Matt yelled, watching me.
"Just stay there." He said, wanting to keep me safe.
"There she is!" Jack Johnson said with a smile, his eyes fixed on me. He was still held at gunpoint by Cameron.

I looked over at Shawn and Jack Gilinsky who rolled around the ground throwing punches at each other. Curse words were being yelled just as much as the punches that were being thrown.
"Get off! Come on man, get off of em'!" Matt yelled as him and Nash pulled Shawn off of Jack Gilinsky. Jack, on his back and still on the ground, got up on his forearms and smirked, his breathing fast. He licked his bottom lip that was dripping with blood. Shawn's eyes caught mine when he was pulled away from Jack. His right cheek was swollen and red, and there was a gash on his eyebrow that was covered in blood.

"You're not getting anything." Shawn spat. Shawn pulled his gun out of his back pocket and pointed it towards both of the Jacks.
"Now get out of here before I fire. And believe me when I say I will shoot you." He said.
"We will get the rest of our money Mendes. Don't think that you got rid of us. Remember, your leader asked us for help." Jack Gilinksy said as if he was referring to his gang being better, before backing off with Jack Johnson at his side. Jack Gilinsky limped as he backed away to the car he and Jack Johnson came in. They sped off, leaving us in the dust from their trail.

"Are you alright man?" Matt asked Shawn, who stared out at the road ahead of him. I slowly walked down the porch steps and on to the gravel.
"Yeah, I'm fine." He replied, wiping his eyebrow on his jacket sleeve. His eyes then met mine once again.
"What did I tell you?!" Shawn yelled with anger in his voice. The boys took this as their signal to leave, so they quietly went back into the house.
"I know what you told me. I just got scared." I mumbled, walking over to him.
"I told you to stay in the house!" He spat.

"Shawn, stop." I said, wrapping my arms around his torso. He grabbed my arms and removed them from his torso. He walked away from me, running his fingers through his hair and tugging at it. He turned back and spoke up again.
"I tell you something for a reason Y/N! Alright, I'm trying to protect you amongst all this." He said. I stood there, a few feet away from him, the wind blowing my hair across my face. I brushed it back with my fingers.
"I know." I mumbled. Shawn sighed.
He walked over to me and snaked his arms around my waist. I wrapped my arms around him and he held me there.

"Thank you." I mumbled.
"For what?" He mumbled back.
"For sticking up for me." I replied, pulling my face back to look at him.
"That's what I do for my girl." He said, brushing his thumb over my cheek. He leaned his face down towards mine and kissed me. I kissed back instantly.
"Woooo'! They made up!" I heard Matt yell from the window, making me pull away from the kiss in laughter. Shawn rolled his eyes but chuckled too.
"Come on." I said, grabbing Shawn's hand and pulling him with me up the porch steps.
"Let's go get you cleaned up.".
