I stood a far distance away from the palace walls, hiding behind a tree in the forest. For the past few years I stood there waiting for him, three times a week at this exact time. I looked over the walls and at the kingdom where he grew up. The boy I had fallen in love with came from a family of wealth and royalty, and I was just the daughter of a kitchen lady who worked for them. I could have easily met the Prince somewhere in the palace, but that would have been to risky for the both of us. My Mother knew of the Prince and I and our secrecy, but would not tell a soul for the sake of us.

I looked back down at the stone wall when I heard the slightest creek of the gate door. My eyes caught his figure as he ran towards me. A large smile rose to my lips, for I had missed him so. It was agony when I worked with my Mother in the palace, seeing him and not being able to do anything. Here in the forest, where nobody could see us, was when we didn't have to hide. I walked further into the forest, waiting for him to meet me.

"Y/N." I heard him call, looking for me behind trees. I hid behind a tree that was right behind him, wondering if I should scare him.

"Y/N." He called again. I tried my hardest not to laugh. Just as he turned around I leapt out at him, causing him to catch me. He didn't look scared, but amused. He chuckled at my efforts.

"Did you know I was there?" I laughed, wrapping my arms around his ribcage.

"No, " He chuckled, "but you're predictable. I knew your intention, but I wasn't sure what tree you hid behind." He replied, tightening his embrace around my waist.

"Well, " I sighed, "It's just impossible to fool the Prince." I said, as he brushed a strand of my hair behind my ear.

"Not impossible." He responded, before gently placing his lips on mine. Not long after he pulled his lips back and placed a kiss on my cheek. He grabbed my hand and led me further into the forest.

"I'm sorry that I am late." Shawn mumbled, looking down at me as we walked.

"That's alright. I know that you are busy with preparations for the party that your parents are throwing tomorrow night. I'm going to be helping out." I said with a smile. Shawn's seemed to falter.

"You're going to be there tomorrow night?" He asked, stopping when we reached a clear area of the forest.

"Well yes. My Mom asked me just last night if I could come and help. Is there a reason I shouldn't be there tomorrow night?" I asked, grabbing his other hand in mine that was free. Shawn stared down at me, his eyes looking over the features on my face. He leaned down and kissed me again, and I wondered if he did it to stall our conversation.

"Shawn?" I whispered against his lips after he had slightly pulled away, curious as to what he wasn't telling me. Shawn sighed, pulling his face away from mine.

"I'm meeting her, tomorrow night." He said, looking away from my eyes as the words left his lips. In that moment I thought that I could physically feel a piece of my heart shatter. Inside there was a pain in my chest that throbbed, but on the outside I looked as if it didn't affect me as much as it had. Tomorrow night he was meeting the Princess he was betrothed to since birth. He had never met her before, until tomorrow night.

"Well," I mumbled, letting go of his hands and walking over to a near by tree, "we knew that one day this day would come."

"Just like the day your eighteenth birthday comes around, and you two marry." I mumbled, resting my back on the tree and looking down at the skirt of my dress. Shawn must have noticed the hurt on my face.

"I'm hurt just as much as you," Shawn sighed, "I didn't choose this." He said, taking a few steps towards me.

"At least you still have the choice to marry whoever you want . . . I don't." He said.

"I don't have that choice," I cried, "because I can't marry the one person I want . . . You." I said, staring at him as my eyes became blurry. I would not look silly and cry in front of him. I knew that he was betrothed to another when I met him, and I knew from the moment we confessed our feelings for one another where this would lead us in the end. I wiped my eyes and stood up straighter against the tree.

"It doesn't matter if you were betrothed to her or not, you couldn't marry outside of royalty anyway." I said. Shawn didn't have words at the moment. He walked over to me and slowly wrapped his arms around me, pulling my body against his. He rested his face against the crook of my neck, and I could feel each breath he made hit my skin.

"I don't want to let anyone down," He mumbled, his breath tickling my skin, "Not the people of the kingdom, my parents, or you. But it's impossible to please everyone in this situation.".

"I want to marry you, but-".

"I know." I said, stopping him mid sentence. He pulled his head away from my neck and looked at me. His face was inches away from mine. Tears had built up in his eyes. Looking at him I saw a boy screaming for help, wanting a say in his own life. Looking into his eyes I knew what he would choose for himself, a life with me. But I think he was fearful of making that decision, a decision that went against the life that had been planned out for him. I wiped a tear that fell down his face.

"No matter who I marry," He whispered, "I will always love you."
My eyes became blurry again, as tears began to build up within my eyes.
Shawn pressed his lips against mine and kissed me, and I kissed him back instantly. When he pulled away from the kiss a small smile formed on his face. He brushed my cheek with his thumb.

"And I will always love you." I replied.
