We slipped past the doors to the balcony hand in hand, closing them behind us once we were outside. The loud music playing within the venue became muffled, and around us the night sky was nothing but quiet.
I looked up at the full moon in the sky that was surrounded by thousands of bright little stars, as Shawn pulled me towards the edge of the balcony.
Though the venue was not too far out from the city, the moon appeared to be so much larger and brighter out here than it did from home. Across the sky, the amount of stars seemed to triple out here too. I just assumed the sky appeared this way because of all the open space around us.
Letting go of Shawn's hand, I leaned my body against the railing of the balcony, my gaze still directed towards the night sky. Shawn stood closely behind me, wrapping his arms around the white coloured fabric of my dress, holding me by my waist. I felt the kiss that he placed on my shoulder, as he tightened his grasp around me.In the next few moments, we stood in a comfortable silence, watching the night sky above us.
"So beautiful." Shawn whispered in my ear, just as a content sigh escaped his lips, breaking the silence.
"I know." I replied in a whisper, admiring the beauty of the sky. He held me so close that I could feel the vibrations of his chuckling against my back. The quick laughter caused me to turn my head and look up at my newly wedded husband. Our eyes locked, and then he replied.
"I wasn't talking about the sky," he admitted with a grin. As I turned in his embrace to face him, I realized what, or rather who, he was actually referring too. My gaze fell to the floor, a habit of mine as a blush rose to my cheeks. Shawn chuckled again, just before lifting my chin with his finger and bringing my lips to his. I could feel his smile against my lips, causing me to smile too.Pulling away from the kiss, Shawn grabbed my left hand. I stared down at our joined hands, watching his thumb brush across the wedding band he had placed on my finger only hours ago. I looked back up at Shawn, a smile still present across my lips. When I looked up at him, his eyes were already set on me. His eyes looking deeply into mine caused a feeling of warmth to radiate throughout my body despite the chill in the night air.
My gaze fell back on our hands, as Shawn entwined his fingers with mine.
"I can't believe we're married." I whispered.
Shawn continued to play with my fingers, brushing the tips of his fingers against my skin.
"I know." Shawn replied, as a grin pulled at the corners of his lips.
Shawn brushed his fingers slowly over the palm of my hand, causing me to silently giggle. He smiled, and laced his fingers back with mine.
Looking up at him, I found myself biting on my bottom lip. I stood on my toes and placed my lips back on his, not being able to deny myself another kiss.Distant laughter belonging to some of our friends and family filled our ears, causing Shawn and I to slowly pull away from each others' lips. Below the balcony, a few of our guests walked out of the venue. They were engaged in conversation as they continued to walk, looking as though they were going for a small walk around the grounds of the venue. Shawn's eyes followed them for only a moment, before turning his head to look back at me.
Shawn rested both his hands on my hips, while I grabbed onto the jacket of his tuxedo.Shawn placed his forehead on mine, before beginning to speak.
"So, Mrs Mendes," Shawn began, my new name causing an uncontrollable grin to appear on my face. As he spoke, I could feel the warmth of his breath, and detect the faint smell of liquor within it.
"I've been your husband for about six hours now . . . How am I doing so far?" He asked, wrapping his arms back around my waist and pulling me even closer to him than I already was. The grin that was playing on his lips let me know that he was playing around with me. So, I played along.
"Terrible," I lied, trying my best not to laugh. "I was seeking divorce papers about five hours ago."
Shawn pulled his forehead back from mine, and he pretended as though he had been seriously offended. We both began to laugh, as we both knew that neither of us was actually being serious.I shook my head, playing with the button on his jacket. Shawn's eyes watched my fingers button his jacket, then unbutton it again.
"In these last six hours, I couldn't have asked for a better husband." I said, answering honestly this time. All I ever wanted was for Shawn to be my husband.
I looked up at him, noticing the large smile that pulled at the corners of his lips. The smile on his face, caused me to smile. Shawn leant down, and placed a kiss on my jaw. The spot his lips had been on tingled, even after he had pulled away.
"So far, you're the best husband I've ever had." I joked, continuing on with the conversation. Shawn chuckled before replying.
"That's because I'm the only one you've ever had." He replied.
Shawn's hands began to slowly travel up and down my back, rubbing it in a loving manner. His touch was always comforting. My gaze on his eyes fell to the red rose that was pinned to his jacket. The rose was tilted slightly, causing the perfectionist within me to reach up and fix it. After fixing it to my liking, Shawn grabbed my hand just as I let it fall from the rose. He held my hand tightly in his, against his chest and over his heart. Looking into my eyes, Shawn spoke up again.
"And, I plan on being the only husband you'll ever have." He said, sincerity laced within his voice. I could feel the tingling sensation in my eyes, as water began to collect within them. I looked up towards the sky, willing my tears not to fall. Hearing those words leave Shawn's lips made me really happy. With the hand that was still on my waist, Shawn comfortingly rubbed my side. When my tears had dried, and I was sure I had no tears to shed, I looked back at Shawn.
"I know." I replied with a smile, really happy with the thought."I love you, Shawn Mendes." I said, continuing to look into his eyes as I wrapped my arms around his neck.
"And, I love you, Y/N Mendes." Shawn replied, placing his other hand back on my waist and leaning his face closer towards mine. Shawn gently placed his lips on mine, taking his time with the kiss.
Upon pulling away from my lips, he spoke up again.
"So far, I couldn't have asked for a better wife, by the way." Shawn said, causing me to laugh.Within the venue, the sound of the music changed. The beat and tempo of the music suddenly changed from upbeat and fast to soft and slow. As connected to music as Shawn was, he began to sway us back and forth to the slow beat of the song. He took my hand, and he spun me around. I chuckled, stepping back into his arms. We both smiled, as Shawn placed his forehead on mine, still swaying to the music.
Just then, the muffled song became louder and clearer, causing Shawn and I to stop swaying and look towards the door where it was open. Standing in the open doorway was Shawn's mom, motioning with a hand for us to come inside.
"Come on you two, your guests want to see the rest of the dance inside." She said, smiling at the sight of us.Shawn sighed, likely at the thought of having to dance in front of everyone again. He turned his head towards me with closed eyes, causing me to chuckle. Opening his eyes, he look back towards his mother.
"Are you sure they want to see me dance again?" Shawn joked, always referring to himself as a terrible dancer. I heard his mother's laughter, as I laughed myself. I grabbed Shawn's hand, entwining his fingers with mine.
"Come on, Mr Mendes," I said, pulling him with me towards the door. "I'll lead." I joked. I caught a glimpse of his smile when I quickly turned back to look at him.
"Oh, why thank you, Mrs Mendes." Shawn laughed, following me inside and towards the dance floor.///
