Just then, all of the sudden my Dad decided to speak.
"So how is it that you ended up with my daughter?" My Dad asked, eyeing Shawn and only Shawn. Shawn put his fork and knife down on his plate, letting his hands fall at his lap, and cleared his throat to speak up.
"Honestly I don't know," Shawn chuckled, "I just got lucky I guess.". Shawn looked over at me with a smile. I grabbed his hand from underneath the table, entwining my fingers with his."Surely, being as famous as you are, you could of had any girl. I'm sure there are a lot of temptations with your fan base consisting mostly of young women." My Dad said. I could begin to tell that this conversation was becoming heavy. This began to feel more like an interrogation. I grabbed my glass of water with my free hand as Shawn replied.
"That is true, I could have chosen any girl but I chose your daughter.".
"Only my daughter?" My Dad questioned.
"Y/D/N!" My Mom said, looking at my Dad in disbelief.
"It's a fair question," Shawn replied, "there were some rumours that were spread.". Shawn looked over at my Dad.
"Only your daughter." He said."What about your excessive traveling? You're always going to leave her. That is not what I want for my daughter. Waiting for a man that'll come home for a week and then leave for another three." My Dad said, anger beginning to show through his words. Shawn never faltered.
"I know, I don't enjoy the traveling either but me and Y/N try to make it work. I don't like leaving her, but it's apart of my job." Shawn replied.
Under the table, I brushed my fingers along the palm of Shawn hand. Shawn looked at me from time to time, giving me a reassuring smile."You know, you are a celebrity. You live a completely different life from my daughter. In the long run, if this relationship goes anywhere which I highly doubt it will," my Mom gasped at what my Dad had said, "you'll be a statistic. How can you be in a relationship with someone who lives a completely different life as you?" My Dad asked, drilling in every little thing that came to his mind. He didn't even let Shawn answer.
"This is why celebrities don't date people like us.".
"Dad." I said, causing him to look at me.
"Stop it." I mumbled. All my Dad was doing was trying to make Shawn see that our relationship could not work in the end. My Dad was no teller, he couldn't see the future."Y/N get out of the clouds. You are crazy to think that this relationship is going to work!" My Dad said.
"We've been together for almost a year now, and everything is going fine!" I replied.
"A year is nothing." He replied.
"Quiet down you two, stop this." My Mom said, embarrassment written on her face.
"Sir," Shawn spoke up, gaining my Father's attention, "I intend to make this relationship work. I love your daughter and I don't want to hurt her. Even if you might not have trust in me, I just want you to know that you can trust me with her.". Shawn squeezed my hand, making me feel better.
"You are still a boy Shawn, things will soon change." My Dad said. He sighed and rested back in his chair.
"You will soon come to understand all the things that I am saying. I suggest you leave her before she's to attached to let you go." My Dad said.Anger built up inside of me. He was telling Shawn to leave me, while I sat right there.
"You don't have a say! Have you ever thought about how I felt, what I wanted? All you do is want 'what's best for me', but really I think this all goes to your benefit." I said. Tears began to build up in my eyes.
"I'm sorry." I mumbled, getting up from the table and leaving the kitchen.I heard footsteps following me. I walked outside and on to the front porch, tears falling from my eyes now.
"Y/N." I heard Shawn's voice. I rested my head against one of the wooden pillars of the porch. My breathing was fast as I cried, multiple tears falling from my eyes. I felt two strong arms wrap around my waist and a chin rest on my shoulder.
"It's okay." Shawn mumbled.
"No it's not!" I replied.
"He is never going to approve of anyone I date. Why do you think my last relationship didn't work out? After meeting my dad he left." I turned around, still in Shawn's embrace, to face him.
"That's why I was scared to bring you here." I mumbled. I sniffled as Shawn wiped the tears that fell from my eyes.
"Your dad is just protective of you, that's all. Do you really think that that is going to drive me away from you? If so, you are crazy. I already told you that will never happen." Shawn chuckled, causing me to chuckle.I smiled.
"I love you." I said, grabbing one of his hands.
"I love you more." Shawn mumbled, leaning forwards to place a kiss on my lips. After pulling away Shawn mumbled against my lips.
"Shall we go finish our meal?" He asked. I tilted my head back in laughter.
"Let's not forget the conversation." I replied. That made Shawn laugh. We walked hand in hand towards the front door, and I walked into the house with confidence. It didn't matter what else my Dad would say this evening, because I was confident in the relationship that Shawn and I had. Shawn and I, and our happiness, was all that mattered.///
