(Shawn's Point of View)

"I broke up with him."
This was the first thing that left Y/N's lips upon me opening the front door to my house. I wasn't expecting her, but there she stood on the front steps. I was surprised by her unexpected arrival, and her confession only added to my shock.
"What?" I asked as though I hadn't heard her the first time. Y/N stepped inside before replying.
"I ended the relationship." She said.

I turned around to face her after shutting the front door closed.
"You did?" I asked, placing my hands in the front pockets of my jeans. I could not help but sound shocked, as I was overwhelmed with it. Y/N always went back to him, but this time she had come to me. She had her bottom lip between her teeth as she nodded. She nodded as if ending their relationship was no big deal for her. This was another thing that added to my amazement. I could not help the smile that pulled at the corners of my lips. I looked down at the floor, trying to contain my emotion of happiness. She finally acknowledged that she deserved better than him.

"I want you," she said, causing me to look back up at her.
"I want to be with you."
The smile on my face relaxed as the conversation became more serious.
"Shawn," Y/N began, "You have always treated me better than he ever did. When I needed someone to talk too, you were there. When I needed someone to comfort me, you were there. Even when I needed someone to make me laugh . . . You were there. Not him. I was just too dumb to realize it."
Y/N stood there, a few steps away from me, with her arms wrapped around herself. It was difficult not to admire her beauty, I could not help myself. Even though her beauty could be a distraction, I payed close attention to every word that left her lips as she continued to speak.
"You have always been there for me. And, I know that you can treat me better, because you already do."

Y/N looked down at the floor, before looking back up at me. She made sure that our eyes looked into one another's before continuing.
"I love you, Shawn." She admitted.
Numerous emotions stirred within me. Among them, were emotions of pure joy and happiness. In that moment, I couldn't wait to hold her in my arms.

I slowly walked over to her, and as I did I noticed that her eyes were following me. I wrapped my arms around her waist, feeling slightly nervous. I pulled her against me, and she didn't seem to refuse the close contact. Her hands held onto my biceps, and her eyes locked with mine. God, she was even more beautiful up close. With trembling fingers, I combed a few strands of her hair out of her face and tucked it behind her ear. I then rested my hand on the side of her face and stroked my thumb along her cheek. Her hands found their way from my biceps to my rib cage where she let them rest. I placed my forehead against hers, enjoying the feeling of being so close to her. I could feel her trembling and uneasy breaths against my lips. It only made me want to kiss her that much more. I could sense that she was eager when her grip would tighten on me. I was eager too. I tilted my head, and gently placed my lips on hers. At first, I didn't move them and just let my lips rest against hers. Eventually, I let them move. I kissed her slowly, occasionally pulling at her top or bottom lip. I comfortingly brushed my hand along her back, while I continued to kiss her.

After pulling away from her lips, a trembling breath escaped mine.
"I love you, Y/N." I replied, resting my forehead back on hers. A smile formed on her face, causing me to smile myself. Then, she leaned up and pressed her lips back on mine.

That Monday, I was resting against my Jeep in the school parking lot waiting for my girlfriend. It was a sunny day, filled with more blue sky than clouds. Unlike the other day when it was pouring rain, the weather was nice enough that I could just wear a t-shirt. I looked up from my gaze on the pavement to see Y/N walking out of the school. A smile automatically rose to my face. There she was. After walking past the doors, her eyes met mine. A smile rose to her face, identical to my own. She began walking at a faster pace and eventually she started running towards me. Her eyes left mine only for a moment as she crossed the street that separated us.

Y/N jumped into my opened arms, and she held me tightly against her.
"Hey." I greeted, rubbing her lower back in a comforting manner.
"Hey." She said slightly out of breath, as she pulled back a bit from her embrace around me. Her lips found mine and she kissed me. I could not help but smile before moving my own lips against hers. Her hands that had been resting behind my neck, guided their way to my lower abdomen where she held onto the fabric of my t-shirt. This action of hers lead me to believe that she did not want me to pull away so soon. With our lips still connected, Y/N pushed us back against my truck. This caused us both to chuckle through the kiss.

We were forced to pull our lips apart when we heard a shout in the distance.
"Hey!" Yelled the unidentified shouter. When I looked up towards the direction of where the shout had come from, my eyes saw Y/N's ex walking towards us. Y/N followed my gaze, and a sound composed of surprise and worry left her lips. Noticing his anger, I unwrapped my arms from around Y/N and stepped in front of her.
"Shawn." She said, grabbing onto my arm. I looked back at her and saw worry in her eyes. Her ex was angry, there was no telling what he would do to me. Though, I had to stand up for my girl.

"Mendes!" He shouted. I looked back at him to see that he was only a few feet away from me now.
"Why are you kissing my girl?" He asked with anger laced in his voice, now standing directly in front of me. He shoved my chest, causing me to stumble back against Y/N.
"I'm not your girl anymore!" Y/N said, steadying me. His intense stare on me averted to her. For a moment, it looked as though he was going to reply to her comment but nothing left his lips. His gaze turned to me once I spoke up.
"Leave her alone man, your relationship is over." I said, crossing my arms over my chest.

Her ex stepped back and looked back and forth between Y/N and I. A cocky smile rose to his face and he began to chuckle. He looked back at the group of his friends that had formed behind him. The small group of guys began to smirk and chuckle themselves. When Y/N's ex looked back at me he spoke up.
"So, she's yours now then?" Before I could reply, he continued.
"Alright," he said glancing at Y/N for a quick moment before looking back at me, "you can have my sloppy seconds." Him and his friends erupted into laughter. An emotion of anger rushed over me. I stepped forward, placed my hands on his chest and shoved him back. This caught him off guard. I definitely shoved him back harder than he had shoved me, as he fell back against his friends. They had a hold on him before he could hit the ground.

"Shawn!" Y/N said in alarm, grabbing my arm once again. As she pulled me back she continued to speak.
"It's okay," she said, and I looked back at her.
"It's not worth it, he's not worth it." Y/N said, looking back at her ex. Then, she got into the passenger side of my Jeep. With one last disgusted glance towards her ex, I walked over to the driver's side of the truck and jumped in. Y/N was right, he wasn't worth it. And, he wasn't worthy of her. I would treat her better than he ever did.
