Lying awake in bed I looked around my dark bedroom, waiting for sleep to consume me. I didn't know how long I had been lying there, just waiting to fall asleep. It felt as if it had been hours. I rolled over on my side and looked at the alarm clock on the nightstand. It was almost midnight, so I had been lying there for close to an hour. I rolled over to the other side of the bed, Shawn's side, and sprawled out there, hoping that lying on a different side of the bed would help me fall asleep. It didn't. I could smell Shawn's scent on his pillow, making me think of him. I had left him downstairs in his office when I went up to bed.

Finding it hopeless to fall asleep I got up out of bed. I sighed with frustration, knowing that I had to get up early the next morning. I walked down the dark hallway and stairs, seeing the glow of the orange light coming from Shawn's office when I got to the living room. I peeked through the opening of the door to see that Shawn sat behind his desk on his laptop. His eyes squinting as he looked at the computer screen. I pushed the door back so that I could walk in, causing Shawn to look up at me from his laptop. A smile appeared on his face.

"Hey, I thought you went to bed." Shawn said, resting back in his seat. I walked closer to where he sat as I replied.
"I did, but I can't fall asleep." I mumbled. I climbed onto his lap, wrapping my arms around his neck. He securely wrapped his arms around me.
"You can't?" He replied, looking into my eyes. I shook my head and then rested it on his shoulder.
"Alright." Shawn mumbled, leaning forward and looking at the laptop screen. He used one hand to move the cursor on the laptop, still holding me but with one arm.
"I'm just going to send this email," he mumbled, his eyes scanning over the bright computer screen, "and then we'll go upstairs."

He shut the laptop after sending the email. I was about to get up from his lap but he stopped me.
"I got it." Shawn mumbled picking me up bridal style, causing me to laugh.
"I can walk up the stairs on my own Shawn." I replied still chuckling.
"I know, but my goal is to get you to fall asleep." He said, carrying me out of the office. After carrying me up the stairs and into our bedroom he laid me down on my side of the bed. He pulled the covers over my body, tucking me in. I laughed, thinking about how cute he was being.

"Okay," Shawn whispered as he made his way to his side of the bed, "now close your eyes.". I laughed but did as he said. I felt his side of the bed cave in as he laid down. It was silent for a moment, all I could hear was each other's silent breaths.
"Are you asleep yet?" Shawn asked through the silence, causing me to open my eyes and laugh out loud.
"No, but if I was you would have woken me up!" I chuckled, shoving his shoulder.
"You're terrible at putting someone to sleep." I joked causing him to laugh.

I rolled over on my side to face him. He laid on his side and his eyes stared at me, searching my face. I just smiled, grabbing his hand.
"How am I going to get up tomorrow?" I whined. Shawn chuckled, playing with my fingers.
"Close your eyes." He replied.
"I already tried that!" I responded.
"Well that's how you fall asleep!" He chuckled.
"Plus looking at me doesn't help, I'm a total distraction." He said, causing me to laugh out loud once again. A large smile stayed on my face.

Shawn moved closer to me. He released his hand from my grasp and brushed my hair behind my ear with his fingers. His fingers then trailed down my back. His hand stopped at the small of my back, and crept under the fabric of my shirt. His fingers brushed against my bare back. The feeling of his fingers on my skin soothing me. I could feel the spirals and shapes his fingers traced along my back. I began to relax under his touch. My eyes began to grow heavy, causing me to close them.
"I love you, Y/N." Shawn whispered, causing me to open my eyes. Shawn's face came closer to mine. He had a smile on his face.
"I love you too." I whispered against his lips.

His lips softy pressed against mine, giving me a quick kiss. He pulled away and rested his head on the same pillow mine was rested on. Our heads rested against each others.
"Goodnight Beautiful." He whispered, continuing to trace his fingers along my back. Considering that I couldn't fall asleep only minutes ago I had caught myself by surprise, for I was too tired to say goodnight back.
