twenty one ; meeting (future) in laws & the return of the robot backpack

the next day is christmas, and it's only been twenty three hours since he saw mia, but already josh is missing her.

god he's whipped.

he spent the night at his parents house after the show, and the entire day he hung out with his siblings and watched elf at least four times and ate cookies and had an epic snowball fight; parents against kids. which obviously he won. at the end of the day of the day he was a bit sad to be leaving his family, but it's not like he can't see them again while he's in columbus.

he told mia that (being the super awesome boyfriend that he was) he would drive to pick her up from her mom's house at the end of the night, that way he could at least be with her for like two hours while it was still christmas and give her a present without it being late.

so that's why he's currently driving down an unfamiliar neighborhood, a good hour and a half away from his apartment, at ten at night trying to find the right house. he put the address into his phone to get directions that way, but it's so dark that he can't really see the numbers on the houses.

he's driving slow through the long road of houses while keeping his eyes looking out the window for the number one-eighty-seven. finally he thinks that he's found it, and josh pulls his car to a stop in front of the house mia gave him the address to. cars fills the driveway, and all the downstairs lights are on in the two story, tan house.

he takes his phone out of his pocket and debates on either texting mia to let her know that he's there, or if he should just go to the door. her family would probably like that, right? for him to introduce himself. yeah, okay.

so he gets out of the car and shivers a bit while weaving through the cars in the driveway to get to the door. he can hear loud laughter and talking as he stands on the doorstep and pushes the bell.

a guy who looks a few years older than josh answers the door. he's tall with hazelnut brown eyes and off-black short curls. he looks at josh, not saying at first, but his expression pretty much says 'okay who the fuck are you?'.

"hey," josh decides to not act like the scared little man child that he is. he clears his throat a bit and stands up straighter. "i'm here to get mia, i'm her uh, her boyfriend."

he looks josh up and down like he's not really convinced. "yeah?" he muses sarcastically and then turns away from the door and calls into the house, "yo, mia, es tu novio."

"you can let him in, alex," mia says with a bit of annoyance and amusement as she gets up from the living room couch and goes over to the door and pushes her older cousin out of the way.

josh grins when he sees her. she looks really cute, dressed in a pair of black jeans and a burgundy off shoulder top with long lace sleeves. "hi."

"hey," she says back, smiling and opening the door wider. "you can come in for a bit, my mom wants to meet you."

"okay, yeah, cool," he nods happily and steps inside. the house is warm and smells like food and laundry detergent, and it has that welcoming environment that makes you feel like you live there after being inside for only a few minutes.

"so you're dating my girl, huh?"

"alex, stop," mia insists, smacking her cousin's shoulder. along with being one of her best friends he plays the role of 'protective big brother' more than her actual brothers do. "quit trying to scare him."

josh can see that mia's cousin is scrutinizing him pretty good, which makes him a little nervous but he doesn't want that to show. so he sticks his hand out, "nice to meet you, dude."
