mia spends the entire wedding ceremony doing two things.
one is constantly thinking oh my god my best friend is getting married oh my god she looks so gorgeous oh my god her and tyler are goals and a bunch of other things along those lines.
she's a girl, she can't help it.
the other thing she does is make faces at josh. since they're standing across each other on opposite sides of the alter and facing each other, he couldn't resist the urge to pull funny faces at her in an attempt to make her laugh.
"i hate you," she tells him with a broad grin after the ceremony is over.
josh shrugs casually, not even phased, and tosses one of his arms around her shoulders. "yeah, i know."
he watches as the photographer starts taking pictures of tyler and jenna, telling them how to pose and guiding them every which way. i wonder if that's something mia wants, he thinks to himself as he starts picturing what it would be like for him and mia to get married.
"do you wanna get married?" he blurts out, half impulsively and half out of curiosity.
she looks at him with wide eyes and raised eyebrows. "what?"
oh god, she thinks i'm proposing. "no, no, i didn't mean it like that. i was just wondering, y'know, if marriage is something you want."
mia feels relieved, but also she wouldn't have really been upset is josh had been proposing.
"yeah, i guess so," she starts off by saying with a slow nod. "what about you?"
if it's with you, absolutely. "i think i've always wanted to end up getting married," he tells her. "to spend my life with someone."
mia keeps her eyes watching tyler and jenna because she knows that if she looks at josh she'll start blushing.
"you're a hopeless romantic, huh?" she muses with a shy smile playing on her lips.
josh shrugs. "kinda, yeah. i didn't use to be, though."
upon hearing this she frowns slightly, and finally turns her head to look up at her boyfriend. "what changed?"
"well," sighs the male happily before meeting her gaze. "i met you."
near the end of the night, when mia's nerves are tingling with alcohol and her body is radiating happiness, she finds herself sitting next to tyler at one of the tables.
tyler takes a swig from the beer bottle in his hand and passes it over to mia. as he does so, his mocha brown eyes stay focused on the party, watching his now-wife laugh and dance with her family and friends.
"i've been wanting to talk to you about something."
she shrugs, as if saying that it's okay for him to start talking.
"a couple months ago josh told me what happened at your apartment, with the strawberries in the kitchen? how you cut yourself on accident?"
oh, shit. i forgot about that. "yeah?"
tyler nods his head slowly and repeats her word. "yeah. and i won't get all sappy with you, okay? i just wanted to say that you're in good hands with josh. he's a really good guy. probably one of the most genuine people i've ever met."
mia doesn't say anything.
"when i met him, i was kinda in a bad place. the music stuff had just started and i didn't really know what i was doing. josh was one of the people that really helped me out," explains the brown-haired boy while his fingers aimlessly tap on his dress pant clad knee. "and i can tell that he's done that for you, too. just, don't shut him out, okay? whenever things are bothering you, you gotta let him know. it's not always easy to do that, but the kid really cares about you. i've never seen him so in love with anyone before."
