josh looks at mia with a casual, amused smile. "so i uh, heard from a few little birdies that you punched a guy in the face."

mia looks at her phone screen innocently. she's sitting at her desk with her phone propped up against a random book. "who? me?"

"yes, you."

"well i don't know who you would hear that from," says mia with a shrug of her shoulders, looking down at her nails scrutinizingly. "it sounds like a dumb rumor."

josh slowly blinks at the screen, unamused. "so jenna was lying, then?"

"jenna told you?" she asks in disbelief with widening eyes, quickly breaking her whole act of innocence.

"nah," says josh, grinning because he knows she's just admitted to it. "but she did tell tyler, who told me."

mia nibbles on her bottom lip and shrugs her shoulders. "it's a really funny story, actually--"

"don't even," josh cuts her off, shaking his head. "i heard it all already."

"are you mad at me?" she asks quietly.

this time, josh frowns. "mad?" he repeats incredulously, tilting his head with confusion. "why would i be mad?"

now mia's confused. she was expecting a long lecture from josh. "um, because i punched someone in the face?"

"was he being an asshole to you?"

"well, yeah--"

"then i'm not mad," says josh. "if anything i'm proud. didn't realize my girl was such a badass," he grins at her through the camera and rests his chin on top of his folded arms.

"i mean i'm not bragging or anything, but yeah - it was pretty badass," says mia with a grin. "he tried to come for zach but, y'know, zach's zach."

"did zach throw shade?" asks josh, trying to be all hip and cool.

mia nods. "he did, he said some things that i'm not gonna repeat because i'm a good girl and definitely do not use that kind of language."

josh scoffs, smirking while he rolls his eyes. "yeah, okay, that's bullshit. your language is terrible - you've even got me swearing."

"well how do you know it's not the other way around?" muses the girl.

"babe," deadpans josh. "you're talking to the boy who was raised so strictly religious that he couldn't even own cd's that weren't christian pop."

pursing her lips, mia nods. "yeah, good point."

"anyways," josh rolls his eyes and turns his head so that his cheek is pressed against his wrist. "i was looking at the schedule to see what off-days i have, and i think i could maybe fly home for a day or two on christmas. would you like that?"

the possibility of seeing josh brings a smile to mia's face. "i'd love that," she corrects. "i haven't checked my work schedule yet, but it's not really all that strict besides the dates of local shows i have to cover, so i'm sure if you can't fly here i can meet you wherever you are."
