Do you know why Homeworld degrade Pearls so much? Well, firstly, gems are gemstones. They aren't made of organic substance, they're rocks. They're made from other rocks that were compressed together under pressure, right?
Well, Pearls are made in oysters. They are organic, in a sense. They aren't like gems. They're Pearls. They aren't made like other gems, they're made in a living creature, and produced. They are a product of a living creature doing something. But gemstones are made through the earth.
They look down on Pearls not because they are weak, or useless, or unintelligent. They degrade them because of the conditions that were created by. They don't care if they are as good as others, they are judging them just by the way of their creation.
