"So what about you?" Peridot asked. The group had a long day of work behind them, Amethyst was already asleep, Garnet was taking Steven home, leaving Pearl and Peridot looking at the stars, in the activity that Garnet called 'star gazing'.

Peridot still didn't understand the purpose of the activity, besides trying to find Homeworld, which was nestled cozily between the brightest stars of the Big Dipper.

"What about me?" Pearl asked. There was a pause, a silence. That's the second thing that Peridot hated. It was so quiet, the crickets didn't even bother chirping, and it seemed all to strange and alien to her.

"How did you leave Homeworld?" Peridot asked, curious. Peridot and Pearl continued to look up at the stars, some of which were called 'shooting stars' and had brilliantly bright tails that followed them as they streaked through the inky blackness of the night sky.

"It was Rose. She told me one day, that she wanted to rebel, and that if I wanted to, that I could leave, be my own Pearl." Pearl said, to herself more than to Peridot.

"And then?"

"And then I agreed. I was free. Free to do anything." Pearl said, followed by a stretch and a sigh. Peridot waited another moment to talk.

"So what did you do?"

"I went with Rose." Pearl said. Peridot exploded.

"Why would you do that? You're a free Pearl! You didn't need to follow her anymore! You, you could've done anything and you just went back to doing what you were doing BEFORE?!" Peridot asked in utter shock and surprise.

"Oh, I didn't go back to doing what I used to. It was quite the opposite, actually." Pearl said.

"So....you fought your...Rose?" Peridot asked, now confused.

"She wasn't my Rose, and I wasn't her Pearl. It was different because now, that I was free, I wasn't obliged to follow her any more. I did it on my own free will." Pearl said.

"So...who owned Rose than?" Peridot asked.

"No one. We were free, to run, to laugh, to dance. We could do anything on Earth, but we realized what we had been missing our whole lives. So we rebelled against Homeworld to let everyone have the same freedom." Pearl said. Peridot, still slightly angry, and a little irritated now, asked another question.

"But, you didn't win. You lost." Peridot pointed out. Pearl nodded, it was a fact after all.

"Yes, but we lost together." Pearl said, like all questions led to that one answer. 'We lost together'. Peridot nodded. She already knew what Pearl would say to her next question, "But why? Why is that better than just losing?"

Because we were still free to run, to laugh, to dance, to love.
