Super long, I had lots of time to write this. Have fun~

The word about them spread like a wildfire around the small town. Not much happened in this calm city, and the biggest deal around here was the summer rush of people and tourists. Everyone talked about it, especially the Fry Boys, who claimed to know them personally.

But there were only a few people in Beach City that actually knew them, at least from the research you've done. The last few weeks your grades had plummeted and the hours you've slept kept on slipping every day.

You've asked, casually of course, if anyone knew anything about these "Crystal Gems" as they called themselves. Accounts varied, some more realistic than others.

Finally, it all led up to today. The sand shifting under your weight as you walked down the beach to the cliff where most people told you that they lived. It was a welcoming and beautiful sight, if not for the giant statue carved into the side of the great cliff. It was a woman, multiple arms. The rock was old, and there were pieces of rubble on the sand beneath the statue, which suggested that the carving was much older than the town.

And that's when you saw it. You didn't quite know what to expect, but there it was. A neat, small, and pretty house cradled into one of the arms of the giant statue's many arms. It seemed almost normal, if not for it's surroundings.

You crept closer, now on high alert. It could be dangerous, some of the townspeople had warned you about them fighting monsters. You didn't believe it than, but now, with the scenery and environment, it seemed a bit more believable.

Myths and legends came to your head, Hercules, the great Roman Gods, and the Aztecs Gods were a few. You didn't know what to expect, so you simply expected everything.

But you didn't quite expect a short boy wearing a tee shirt, jeans, and flip flops.

"Are you the mail man?" he asked. He was shorter than you by at least a head, and he only seemed around eight or nine years old.

"Do you live here?" you asked, not answering his question.

"Yeah, my name's Steven." he said, his voice was cheerful and bright. The near opposite of yours.

"Do the Crystal Gems live here?" you asked, confused whether the town's  population was just confused about these Crystal Gems and where they lived. Perhaps they didn't exist at all. Maybe it was just a massive prank that the town was pulling on you.

"Yeah, Pearl, Amethyst, and Garnet. Why?" he asked.

"Th-They're real?" you asked a small stutter making it's way into your question. He nodded.

"Why wouldn't they be?"

"I-I just thought..." you said, trailing off mid sentence. He grabbed your hand in his, surprising you.

"C'mon. They're not here right now, but they'll be back in an hour. Well, Pearl is here." he said. Strange names, you thought to yourself as he lead you to his house, and inside was a scene just as cozy and welcoming as the outside of the house.

"Steven, I made lunch." A voice said from the right. Steven and you both turn your heads to the direction. Unlike you, Steven going running to the source of the voice. You freeze, unable to move.

A tall, slender, no not slender, skinny lady, pale, and tall was holding a plate with a sandwich on it. Steven took the plate and started eating.

Pearl, that's what you guessed her as, stared at you for a moment before turning to Steven.

"Is this your friend?" she asked.

"No, well, not yet. I just saw her outside and she asked about you. And Garnet. And Amethyst." Steven said. That sounded bad, even to you. The lady turned to you, suspicious.

"Why did you want to know about us?" she asked. Although you were near the same height as her, she seemed capable of doing serious damage.

"I-I just heard about you and I didn't think that you were real, the facts were all over the place, and nothing seemed to be really accurate. S-So I just kinda came here to see." you said, taking steps back until you nearly fell backwards.

"Hm. Well, at least she's smart." she said, turning her attention back to Steven. Smart. No one called you that. They called you weird, creep, and nerd. Never smart.

"Smart?" you repeated, sounding like a complete idiot.

"Yes, smart. You obviously did your research for this trip. I'm impressed to say the least." Pearl said. You felt blood rush to your face.

"Oh...Thank...You?" you said. She turned to you again, and you noticed something.

"Pearl." you said before you realized that you said it out loud.

"Yes?" she asked. You pointed at her forehead, at the pearl that was located there.

"You...have a pearl. In your head." you said. Pearl nodded. You started to think out loud before you noticed.

"Th-Thanks impossible, a pearl that size, and it would've taken weeks to recover from a surgery that put it there, and even then, your skull..it-it would've had to been completely remodeled to have that there, it's scientifically, and biologically, now that I think about it, to have a...pearl...in....your forehead." you said. Pearl laughed.

"Smart. But, you're wrong. Biology has no place in this." Pearl said.

"Biology has a place in everything." you said, defensively.

"Not in me. I'm a gem. Isn't that what you were looking for, the Crystal Gems? The name suits us, doesn't it?" she said. You nearly faint. That was impossible.

You look at Steven. His shirt seemed a bit too small, and on his stomach was a Pink Quartz. No, you corrected yourself. Rose Quartz.

"You seem like you need some explaining." Pearl said. For the rest of the day, Pearl explained the Gems, and you met Garnet and Amethyst. Before you left, you smiled and turned to Pearl.

"Pearls are made in oysters. Biology has a place in everything." you said and you left the house.
