You looked at the shiny black gemstone that was in your wrist, a polished black square. You were made for battle. A warrior. Like a Quartz. You were suppose to serve, later in the gem war. That's when you were made, a giant mistake. They didn't plan you. You just happened.

It was because of a meteor. It hit Earth, just as Homeworld was beginning to run out of soldiers on the battlefield. You were one of the very few that were made from the impact, and the rest of them were deformed, twisted up and broken. They were shattered and were harvested, used for items like books that can be used to answer questions, or for battle strategies. That was the destiny for all the gems of your kind.

You were the only one. The only one that survived, without some sort of disfigurement. The first and only of your kind. Being used as a weapon. You didn't know if it was the fact that you were made of Earth, but you felt like you could do more than just serve your Diamond.

There has to be more than just running at your enemies, and being shattered. There had to be more to life than that. Perhaps the court? But you couldn't possibly act as a court gem, with their manners and their rules, pages and pages of it. There were twenty eight volumes on manners to have in the court, as a court gem.

No, you couldn't be a court gem.

An authority?

No, you didn't have that sort of respect. Or the fear. And you didn't really wanted to be feared. You were just formed a few days, and you wanted to maybe make a friends before being feared by everybody.

What could you be? A technician? A reporter? An informant? What else was there? There were jobs, and each gem was made to perform a job. But you were not made by Homeworld. You just served for them. You were never programmed, as other gems were, and they couldn't program you now, since you were no longer in the earth.

So what did you want?

Wealth? Power? Respect?

You shook your head. None of it sounded very appealing. There must be other things. You took a deep breath. There had to be something that you were good at.

Being confused. Sad. Angry.

Emotions. You felt more than any other gem, but you never felt the need to express it aloud. You felt as if you were the only feeling in the world of Homeworld gems.

Inferior. Trapped. Over-controlled. Alone. Lonely.

You could feel. Who else felt?

You had seen your Diamond's Pearl before. Their loyalty. But you had a feeling that it was programmed into them, or that they did it out of extreme fear. That wasn't emotion. But it was close. The Diamonds sometimes expressed frustration, but that didn't feel right. They acted as if the rebellion was just a small thing, one that could be brushed off. But it kept coming back.

You had seen the wanted posters for the Rose Quartz, and the Pearl.

Angry. Ferocious. Determined. Courageous.

They had reasoning behind it, after all. Even if it was stupid. And they were feeling on their own free will. And they were fighting the most powerful being in the galaxy, so they must dedicated to whatever they were fighting for. What was it called again?

Freedom. They were fighting for freedom.

It sounded lovely.
