Although Steven and Connie fuse a few times, they don't feel the same type of wanting to be fused all the time like Garnet, but they do it when they're too tired of being alone, or when they're sad, or when they're having a hard time, because the stress of everything they have on their minds are equally divided between the two, and it helps Connie so much because she's always so stressed about her grades and her family, and it helps Steven learn about stress and it makes him happy that he can help Connie.

Amethyst was the most affected by Rose's death, always as much as Greg was. She was so alone, she no longer knew how to fit int. Steven was still a baby, and she was too scared to touch him, in case she hurt him. Pearl was too smart, too intelligent for Amethyst to really be comfortable around, Garnet was too serious. Rose was the only one that really loved her, for all she was, and wasn't scared of her simply because of her being made by Homeworld.

She was so alone, for so long. She would go into her room for weeks at a time, and when Pearl and Garnet went in, they always found her. That's why she keeps her room so ridiculously messy, just in case she goes back into one of her slumps again, then Pearl and Garnet won't be able to find her.

"You blame me, don't you! You always do, because I'm the mistake here, I'm the imperfect one on your spotless record!" Amethyst screamed. It was the day after Rose's death, and Steven's arrival to Earth. Garnet was taking Steven to Greg, for him to take care of. Pearl and Amethyst were left alone.

They had aged so much in the last day. No one talked about it. They were all mourning for Rose, they were becoming mentally older.

"I never told you that." Pearl said in a weak voice. She was so tired, her eyes were red from crying and her voice was raspy from the long time that she had held her breath after Rose just disappeared. She never expected that, for Rose to leave.

"WELL YOU DO, DON'T YOU! I'M NOT GOOD ENOUGH! I NEVER WAS AND I NEVER WILL BE BECAUSE I'M ONE OF HOMEWORLD'S GEMS AND YOU CAN'T SAY I'M NOT BECAUSE I AM!" Amethyst roared, the small house filled with noise. Pearl looked down at Amethyst. She still didn't look mad. She looked so depressed, with her light blue eyes mournfully watching Amethyst shout at her.

"I used to think that. That I wasn't enough. I was a pearl, Amethyst. Just a Pearl. A servant that anyone on Homeworld could buy if they had enough money. That's all I was, Amethyst. Not a fighter. Not a thinker. Not anyone. Just a trinket." Pearl said, her voice getting slower and slower as she went along, like the weight of reliving the memory was stopping her.

"But we had Rose, didn't we, Amethyst? She told us that it wasn't true. I'm not just a servant, and you're not just a Homeworld soldier. We're the Crystal Gems." Pearl said. Amethyst felt a familiar stinging in her eyes and Pearl smiled before she too started to cry.

Amethyst felt two skinny cold arms wrap around her.

We're the Crystal Gems.
