"It's just me, Amethyst. You're going insane." you say as Amethyst tugs at your arm, dragging your closer to the temple and blabbing about the Crystal Gems, her new family, and her friends. You follow her to the cave in the cliff side.
This was new. The last time you had seen Amethyst was at the Kindergarten, where she was taken away. You two were close, nearly sisters. But you separated, you went to explore the world of humans and Amethyst went to join the Crystal Gems, the newest member.
Well, second newest. Rose, from what you had heard from little Amethyst, was now pregnant. You didn't question it. In the strange world of humans and gems, nearly anything was possible. The temple looked the same, the same portal and the same doors with the star neatly carved into it.
"Citrine, how are you!" Pearl asked, the taller gem bouncing up to you with the same grace and spring in her step that you remember from her. You two were near the same height, although Pearl had proved that height was not such a large variable.
You smile. These two were still the same. You wondered if Sapphire and Ruby were.
"Wonderful. Where's Ruby, and Sapphire?" you asked. Amethyst looked up at Pearl, expecting something of her. You look at Pearl as well. Had something happened to them? Was something wrong?
"There isn't a Ruby and Sapphire anymore." Pearl said slowly. You flinch. Had they been poofed? Or left the Crystal Gems.
"What happened?" you asked, trying to keep the shakiness out of your voice. You couldn't lose another one. Sapphire, being so smart and so calm, and Ruby being so energetic and emotional. They were two of your only friends.
"Nothing happened." A voice said from behind you. You turned around quickly, reflexes sharped from years of living on your own. A tall gem, her body only made of curves, was standing before you with a cool expression on her face and a smile, and sunglasses that reflected your surprised face.
She was beautiful, amazing, and stunning. You weren't able to say anything for a moment, not because she took your breath away, but because the air in your lungs had been violently sucked out. There were no words.
She looked at you, her head slightly tilted now.
"You're blushing." she stated. You felt your face. The coolness of your skin was now warmed up. You hunched your shoulders and tried to hide your face. Amethyst started to tug your arm towards the end of the cave, and you followed. The taller gem didn't follow, just stayed there, looking at you.
"Who's that?"
"That's Garnet. She's a fusion of Ruby and Sapphire." Pearl explained. You nodded. That's what happened. They were still here, not separated though. You tried to think. She was amazing. Every detail.
"Why are you acting so weird?" Amethyst asked, still tugging on your arm. You shrugged, trying to hide the blush. It took Amethyst a while to understand.
"YOU LIKE G-." she managed to scream before you placed a hand on her mouth, your face now bright cherry red.
"Not another word." you say, quickly walking away, towards wherever Amethyst wanted to take you. Pearl was warily watching you now, like you were some sort of enemy.
"Rose! Rose! Roseroseroseroseroseeeee!" Amethyst said before Rose, the same Rose, came out. Her stomach had somewhat of a bump now, and she seemed tired.
"Oh, Citrine! It's been such a long time!" Rose said, pulling you into a hug. Rose's hugs were the best, you remembered that. The faint smell of flowers and the warmth that made you feel like you were safe no matter what.
"It has been too long." you said. She smiled, her pink curls the same, her dress the same. It was the same Rose, expect for the fact that she was pregnant. You smiled. Nearly everything was the same. Well, almost everything. You thought as you turned around to Garnet. She was still standing where she was, watching.
~
"Why don't you just tell her?" Amethyst asked, rummaging through her room, partly full of garbage. You shrugged and kicked a rat away.
"Because."
"Why?"
"I dunno."
"Then why not?" Amethyst asked, turning around and sitting on the pile of trash. You looked up at her. You smiled. At times like this, Amethyst's stupid questions proved to be quite useful. Why not? What was the worse that could happen?
Well, she could say no. The thought made you want to curl up into a ball forever. Amethyst watched you patiently.
"I dunno."
"Then just do it."
"I'm scared."
"Then should I do it?"
"No!"
"Why not?" she asked. Oh, the why not question again. It was a pretty good plan. At least if she was going to reject you, she wouldn't be doing it directly to your face. That was better than the other choices.
"Okay, fine. Just tell her, but don't do it so......"
"So what."
"Energetically." you said, finally finding the word for Amethyst's personality. She shrugged.
" 'kay."
"Are you sure?"
"Yup."
~
"WHAT DID SHE SAY?!" you shouted, feeling your face grow hot and your hands ball into fists to the point where you were breaking the skin on your palm.
"That Pearl already told her that you didn't like her." Amethyst said casually. Pearl. Pearl. Why Pearl? Why would Pearl do this?
"Which way to her room?" you asked. Amethyst led you to a tiny pool, a little more then a puddle. You jumped in without hesitation. The insanity of Amethyst's messy room was replaced with the soothing calmness of Pearl's water themed room, with fountains.
It didn't calm you down. Now at all. Pearl was standing, poised, with a weapon at hand, like she had known that you would storm into her room.
"WHY DID YOU TELL HER THAT PEARL?!" you shout at the top of lungs.
"Because you were going to take her away!" she shouted back, but not with the same volume or power or anger that you were shouting with.
"What are you even talking about? I was just going to tell her...." you trailed off. Pearl smirked.
"Exactly. You were going to tell her and she was going to say yes and she would've left with you. Do you know what I've been through in the last few months? Rose is pregnant and she's going to leave? If you leave me here with Amethyst and take Garnet away I SWEAR I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN AND KILL YOU!" Pearl said, throwing her spear at you. You were momentarily distracted, hopelessly watching the weapon spiral closer and closer...
And a shadow. A sharp scraping sound of metal on metal. A gasp.
It was Garnet. Pearl's spear was now clean cut in half. She looked at you two like you were just two children fighting over a mother's love.
"Pearl, that was very stupid of you." Garnet said. You weren't able to do anything for a second, your heart was pounding and your legs were jello.
"And Citrine, that was very stupid." she said, turning around. Pearl looked scared.
"Citrine, you shouldn't have told Amethyst to tell me. I knew the whole time." she said.
"How?" you managed to whisper. She smiled.
"I'm not just Ruby. I'm Sapphire too."
"....Oh..."
"And Pearl, if you just listened, you would know that I wasn't going to leave. I would never leave." Garnet said, turning around. Pearl was cowering. It was hard to imagine just a second ago, Pearl was willingly about to kill you.
She turned back to you.
"Stay here with me?" she asked, holding out her hands. You took them.
