Recap from part 1:
He took the keys and half-pulled a reluctant me to a door with a tag '777' on it. He passed me the keys. "Open it and you will know where are we."
Curiosity surged through me and I couldn't wait to open it. "Open it, Christine." Hearing my name on his lips made me shiver out of fright. Breathing out heavily, I decided to bet on this. I unlocked the door with the key and stepped inside. I swear it is the most beautiful sight I have ever seen.
Part 2:
Nick stepped through the door behind me and nudged me forward slightly so that he had enough space to close the door. "Welcome to the School Of Dark Night!" His breath tickled my ear as I turned around in circles admiring the wonderful garden. Though it was nighttime, I could just imagine how it would look like during the day. Too bad we've got to sleep through the day and wake at night. This rule makes me feel like I won't see the day ever when I'm here. Plus I've got to adapt to the sleeping pattern here.
"The school's there," he pointed to a further background. Following the direction where his index finger is pointing, I turned and gasped at the marvelous shape of the school. When I said shape, it means I could only make out the shape of it only and it's nothing I have ever seen. It wasn't any primary shape, it was made up of different shapes together.
"Wow, this school is so cool!" I squealed in delight.
"You might say that now but I doubt you would say that after a few days. It's actually quite boring. The teachers are boring and strict. It's like hell man!" He argued.
"Hmm? Maybe. If the teachers give me a hard time, I'll give them a hard time too. An eye for an eye, as simple as that."
"We'll see, we'll see," I could hear amusement in his tone.
"Could you bring me to the office? I'll like to know where is my room, I want to know my timetable too!" By now I was jumping like a monkey. Nick was taken aback but recovered from his shock. "This way, miss Christine," he bowed down like a gentleman and used his arm to show me the way. Along the way, I thought of something that should have came across my mind just now. "Nick?" "Yeah?" "If it's always so dark at night and we're supposed to be 'nocturnals', why do they bother to even add a garden in the school premise? We can't even see a thing at night!"
"Well," he hesitated, "to be honest with you, everyone here including me, excluding you, can see this place as bright as day. Only to you, it's very dark."
"Why is that so?" I frowned because I thought that it was unfair.
"I....."he didn't tell me. He only grabbed my arm suddenly and in just mere seconds we're looking at a glass door. I just assumed it's the school's office. "Go on in,"he gestured, "You'll get your timetable and everything else you need in there. And that includes stationary too!" "Cool...."
I walked over to the nearest desk which had a name facing me at the bottom left corner saying 'Ms Mourn'. That got me puzzled, because no one in their right minds would change their names to 'Mourn'. I mean, that's cool, but it's a bit too...sad. Mourn...maybe she likes to mourn for...people? Dunno, and that's not my business.
'WHAM!" One woman in black slammed a thick black file onto the table, making me flinch in fright.
"Enough of thinking about me. What is my business is none of yours, so take your timetable and other things, and the get the hell out of here!" The woman partially screeched. I rubbed my ear as I heard weird tingling sounds you get if your eardrum had been blasted. So loud and noisy! I wonder why the school would want to hire her. The school should get someone much kinder and-
"ENOUGH! TAKE YOUR THINGS AND STOP BOTHERING ME, IGNORANT GIRL!" she boomed.
"Sorry," Nick mumbled an apology to her and dragged me away from her. "One thing that you should know, is that your thoughts are never safe in this school around us. Some of them might overhear your thoughts and may be offended. Come on, we'll get our things from another room."
He brought me to the next room filled without at least a thousand big drawers with names on them. "Hmm...let's see...what's your full name?" He frowned. I thought he looked cute when he frowned but was cut in by his speech. "Well I do remember me asking for your name, not to check me out to see whether I'm cute or not." He winked playfully.
I gasped. "What? You actually know what I am thinking about?!" "Of course. I've told you that just now. Now, Christine Lim...Christine Lim...Where is your name....?" Nick moved away from me, towards the continuous row of drawers, towards the end of the whole room. "How did you know my name?"
"I heard your name flying around your head," he replied casually.
What the hell...What the fuck is he? And what's going on in this school?
"I am different from you, but soon you will be the same as the rest of us, and this school is perfectly normal. You just have to get used to it. Don't worry, I'll help you through school, babe. Oh yeah, the boys here would wanna have a taste of you too, definitely. I'll help you get rid of those unwanted pests," he offered. Nice guy...
He chuckled and pulled out a drawer before I could read the name on it. "This is your...uniform, your stationary..., and some other stuff...Your uniform is so...loose...loose as in...kind of slutty, I guess. I look forward to seeing you in your uniform! And...OH YES! OH YES! I'M SO HAPPY! YOU'RE IN THE SAME 'APARTMENT' AS ME! OH MY GOD! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! I'LL SHOW YOU AROUND, INTRODUCE YOU TO YOUR FUTURE ROOMATES AND....MANY MORE!!!" his sudden outburst made me blink twice to register what the hell was happening.
He pulled my arm towards the exit. "Wait! Where are we going?" I spluttered.
"To meet your other roommates!" He could hardly keep his excitement off his tone. Honestly, if he doesn't stay so excited like this I'll be grateful, because while walking along the corridor and into the lift, then to another corridor, people were looking at us as if we're crazy. "Nick, I can carry my things, thanks," I tried to take my stuff from him, but he won't let me. He said something about him having to be a gentleman and help me, this most beautiful lady he's ever seen.
"Please, let me have a chance to be a gentleman. Just once," he pleaded, giving me the kind of look that puppies give their owners to coax them to give in. "Okay," I agreed in exasperation.
He then so-called 'jump' about like a clown in a circus and banging into the walls occasionally and that made me laugh. "Why are you laughing?" this question surprised me. I thought he could tell what I was thinking about?
"I thought you would know?" I asked curiously. "I don't think you know about this, but I don't feel good going about and ransacking people's minds as if I'm a memory thief," he stopped and faced me and I could see the seriousness in his eyes. "Oh," was all I could think about.
"We're here," he opened a door to welcome me into our 'apartment'.
