I'm Packed Off To A Boarding School In The Middle Of Nowhere...Oh And I Don't Think They're Humans~59~
~Still Christine's POV~
Nah, I must be making a mountain out of a molehill again. Kres is a vampire, he'll be able to take care of himself. He always strike me as the responsible but quiet type, so there shouldn't be much problem. Or am I wrong?
I whipped around, searching for Amelia and Kres in the darkness. Even though most of the park was brightly lit, I know there are places which have little or no light source at all. That's where I think they are headed to, with Amelia leading him. Horrific thoughts of what Amelia would do to him entered my mind. Amelia had been well known in school for being "wild". I have no wish for Kres to be treated the same way as Amelia's exes. I stopped what I was doing and before I ran after them, Kes looked at me directly and said this sadly but calmly, "I believe in you. Help bring my lost brother back."
What I know was Kres wasn't lost, but regardless, I vowed to myself that I would bring him back, all intact.
I paused a little when I was about to enter the entrance to a spiderweb of routes. They were actually wooden platforms for people to walk on while enjoying the view of mangrove swamps and wild life. I took a deep breath. Today might be the day I find out whether the haunting stories about Pasir Ris Park is true or just fake stories created to scare kids. I took out a small torchlight and switched it on, then, following my instincts, I figured they might have gone to the most exciting place of all: a pavilion-like structure that is used for watching the scenery all around from about a height of five stories high, roughly in the middle of nowhere surrounded by trees. The wooden walkway thumped and creaked as I ran towards the structure. These routes are far too familiar, for too easy to pass. My fear for Kres grew.
Soon, I came across a lamppost. My goal was just beside it. "Kres! Are you here?" I screamed in my head, frantically hoping that he could hear me and stop going anywhere before Amelia made her moves. At this moment, my good friend has become an enemy in my head.
"What is going on?" I thought. Wait. That wasn't me!
That was me hearing Kres' thoughts in my head! Reaching out with my mind, I pulled at his thought, intruding into his mind. No sooner had I focused on it that I felt myself sucked to another place mentally. Maybe thing was one of the powers that Blake and the rest had? The mind-reading thing...
I saw myself higher up, exactly knowing how the surroundings looked like through the acute vision of Kres', and Amelia was right in front of 'me'. "So, your name's Kres, huh? I saw another guy who looked quite like you. Are you both twins?" 'I' felt suffocated. She was another one who wanted something from me...
I forced myself back to my own body. This mind reading stuff's kinda cool, very useful during emergencies. Swiftly, I nearly flew up the steps with a sudden burst of speed, until I reached the top just in time to fend off Amelia from Kres. Strangely, I felt as if I was a mother protecting my child from harm. Except this is for my friend, my roommate.
"Amelia, stop this," I glowered at her menacingly. Baring my...teeth?! Amelia took a step back, her eyes wide, filled with utter horror.
"I...I can't believe this! You...You're one of them? Here I was, thinking I could finish them off one by one for you so you can escape before more come for you!" Amelia cried. "I didn't know that you have become a beast, like them! Blood-sucking animals! Inhuman!"
"Look, if you are gonna think us as beasts, then why would you even follow us? Aren't humans beasts too? Think about this, human instincts in humans are selfish and stubborn, and only a few can overcome that and become selfless and wise, forever willing to learn and listen. Look at the world now, aren't humans that ones who does the most damage to earth? All these pollutions, crimes, electronic entertainment. Doesn't that alone make humans more beastly? I once read a book, where a vampire was tryig to make a human understand that if vampires, who sucks on the blood of humans, are called vampires, isn't it the same logic as vegetables calling humans 'vampires'?" I tried to convey the message to her, careful to keep my voice down in case anyone happens to pass by and overhear our conversation. "We'll become what? Vampires that sucks the blood of vampires? That's ridiculous!"
Amelia looked unimpressed. So much for trying to make her understand my point. "I don't know what you're saying, and what you are trying to do. I'm leaving!" She bounded down the steps. Our trouble was gone, for now. I directed my worry at Kres. Was he hurt?
"Kres?"
No answer from from him.
"Kres!" I shook his shoulders with a little force. At last, his eyes flitted dazedly to mine. "You okay?"
Tears pooled in his eyes. Did I do something wrong? "Kres, say something!"
Unexpectedly, he threw himself at me and hugged me tightly, burying his face into my shoulder. His whole body trembled. I hugged him back, giving him the warmth and comfort he needed very much at the moment.
