I'm Packed Off To A Boarding School In The Middle Of Nowhere...Oh And I Don't Think They're Human~11~

Recap From Part 10

"Congratulations! You're the only one today who had even reached the room with the monkeys. Though you failed there, at the last part, you passed the others with flying colors, and I'm proud to say that our school's only female student can beat the rest of the guys and also emerge as the first in the whole first years in the general knowledge practical test. Up next, you'll be having your physical fitness test. You'll be awarded marks based on how you play the sport you choose. Now any idea what sport you're interested in?" Richard beamed. Blake nodded encouragingly at me. Sam made a gesture which says 'go on'.

"Er...badminton?" I said softly, desperately hoping that there would be badminton in this school, or else I would be lost if I do another sport. "Sam, please bring this lovely girl with a bright future to our school's very special sport hall and straight to the teacher in charge. Be sure to pass him this," Richard have a small piece of paper to Sam and left us after saying goodbye to us.

Part 11

Nick, Sam, Zelda, Kes and Kres crowded around me. "Congratulations! Good luck for your next test!" They chorused together. I looked over at Blake who had a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. When he noticed me looking at him, he went stiffened and walked away stiffly as if his joints were rusty.

"What's wrong with him?" I frowned.

"Don't care about him. Let's rush our girl to her next test: badminton! I can't wait to see how our heroine play badminton!" Zelda exclaimed excitedly.

"Good idea! I wanna see it too!" Nicky followed along too.

Like this, I was rushed off to the badminton hall which Richard had talked about. It was grand, with polished wood as the floor tiles and the had nine badminton courts, I counted. Five were occupied by players whom I assumed were in the school team, and there was one familiar figure-Aldrin. Once he realized I was here, he stopped playing and jogged over to me. If it counts as jogging to other people. His jog is much like other people's sprint so he reached me in like seconds.

He grinned without panting. "I knew you would choose badminton no matter what. Tell me, have you been skiving after I left?"

I opened my mouth to answer him, but the teacher in charge noticed me and came over.

"Miss, I heard you chose badminton as your sport and earlier on, you passed your test with flying colours. But if you had asked the tester to compliment you," he held up the note that Sam had been asked to pass to him, "then I'm very disappointed. I would expect you to get at least a five from the matches which you are going to play with Aldrin," he grinned maniacally. "Aldrin, I hope you won't be too lenient on her just because she's a girl and she's your friend."

Damn teacher...as if Aldrin would be lenient on me...I know he would want to know where I stood in terms of our skills and stamina. No problem, dude, but I don't have a racket with me. That asshole of a teacher went off and got a racket for me, but after holding and checking it, I knew instantly it was just a lousy cheap racket that could have cost less than ten dollars.

Thankfully, at that moment, Aldrin lent me his extra racket. The same one which I had lent from him years ago. It reminded me of those fun times we had together, and how he had stood up for me whenever I was bullied. The brotherly love from him was enough to make up for the fact that I did not have a blood brother. We shared our secrets and problems, cheered each other up when both of us were feeling down, and those times we slept over at each other's house. We shared everything.

Luckily for me, I was wearing my normal sport shoes, but the unlucky thing was that it wasn't really suited for badminton. Relishing the familiar feel of the racket which fitted perfectly with my arm like it always did, I stroked with Aldrin for a few minutes. In the meantime, the other players had stopped playing and came over to watch us play. Maybe they felt that I would just be a beginner who knows nothing. Well, this would be an eye-opener for them.

Finally, we stopped stroking and the match started, umpired by the stupid teacher in charge.

"Love all, play!" He announced a little softly. I was the one who served, and I tried serving the shuttle to Aldrin's backhand but I knew what he would do; he would lift the shuttle using his backhand to my backhand-base, which really happened. Then, we both aimed for the four points of the court, both of us testing each other's stamina. The first match ended with him winning 21-18. Haha, the teacher must be too shocked for words, because when we were resting before our second match, he was gaping at me most of the time. Bet he didn't expect me to get even three. The other school team players were gaping at me too, so maybe they couldn't get eighteen when they played their match with Aldrin.

Another unlucky thing, was that I did not have water with me. Neither did Sam and the others. Just when the match was about to start, Aldrin offered his water bottle to me. I accepted, then grinned, because he was still using the nike sports bottle which we had bought together, only that mine was back in my apartment, in the kitchen, actually.

After gulping down some of the water, I returned the bottle to him and we continued our second match. I knew I would always lose to him, but still, I put in my best effort, and, this time he still win, but I got 19, which is considered an improvement even when I improved by 1.

"So, what do you think? Am I good enough for the team?" I faked a smile at the teacher.

"Yes, but your attitude can be improved," the teacher glanced down at me with his fake smile plastered on his face. It sickened me so much that I had the urge to punch him then and there. So, he thinks he can look down on me just because he's taller than me? He might want to be careful when walking outdoors. Some day the lightning would hate him so much that it would just strike him. I snickered.

"That's not even funny, girly," he marched off.
